Doubt with premium ammo

Easy, when it has to be done weekly. All the rest are one time things. o7
But has not the content of many posts made by those who actually play PvP as their main game been the 'continuing grind' for engineering mats as multiple G5 engineered builds need to be constructed to engage whatever the latest META happens to be?

I may be mis-remembering...

They might say that, but it's not entirely accurate, the grind to build one ship for an experienced player with 'most' of the mats already in stock and only needing a few more isn't 'terrible', and has been significantly improved in the last 12 months in general. There are basically 3 pain in the butt materials, pharma isos, mil supercaps and improvised components, the rest are largely trivial.

The raw materials supersite is 1600 boring light years out in the sanguineous rim, but to not make the boring af trip out there and the three hour grind to fill up ALL raws, is to be doing it wrong. Ammo mainly needs raws (premium needs some extras), so there is no barrier except time.

I must say I do cry a little inside when I need to do 7 new weapons for the challenger, but that's pretty infrequent.

Those 3 pain-in-the-butt materials affects all of us I think :) I nearly danced when I picked up 9 PI's from a HGE then 6 imp comps from another the very same play session - that was after the Devs announced 'better HGE's'.

The trip to the mats sites (jumps) isn't too bad, but the Supercruise time....

(I can't say the trip is boring as my main is jumping out to explore an interesting area a mere 4,000Ly from Carcosa - I'm doing that every other day ATM :) )

You're lucky you can handle long jump sessions. I fall asleep. Totally literally, after about 15 jumps my eyes start to close. :D

I'll turn that around (in the same good nature) and say you're lucky to enjoy PvP as I just want to fall asleep after a few minutes too :)

It's good that we enjoy different things, and are able to choose to do exactly that, it'd be a real snoozefest otherwise 👍

At some point my main will visit Beagle Point, via The Abyss (as I'm already in the area) but even I need to psych myself up for that one, I'm more a daytripper than an adventurer!

When I first read about it, I decided there was absolutely no way I'd pour hard-earned materials into my guns and throw them at the enemy. It seemed such a waste, as I still had a lot of engineering to do and I needed them for that.

Two things have changed my mind. I've pretty much finished buying and engineering ships (on my main account), and I'm now harvesting the Crystalline Shards. Premium ammo tends to use Raw materials, which I now have plenty of. Nowadays I tend to use regular ammo until I run out, then synthesise the best premium ammo.

Interesting reading thoughts presented here. I've played about 2600 hrs almost always PG, as the group that got me interested has used that mode in PVE. I have dabbled in open a little. Considered PVP but don't think I'd do well. I use standard reloads for my frags on this ship; https://s.orbis.zone/52sa. Works out fairly well for my play style. Premium reloads seem like a waste of resource though. I do grind the Crystalline Shards a couple of times a year and that seems to get me by.

I can see that to be competitive in open the use of Premium Reload would be very useful. There should be an indicator next to the weapon on the sub-target list though identifying its use though. Just like it does on the module screen.

[ MATERIALS ]
I'll point out that the mats issues isn't really an issue. With material traders you can get the mats much easier then using an SRV. Just pick up the junk left by your fallen foes and trade it in. So, no SRV needed. There is no substance to your argument.

Speaking of substance to arguments: good luck with trying to use the material traders to get the raw mats you need for premium synthesis by trading in the manufactured mats your destroyed foes drop.

Bonus if you can do it by trading in the mats your pvp opponents drop (spoiler: they don't drop anything).

So better keep the SRV if you want to use that unbalanced premium crap (which, btw, should be removed from the game, plain and simple).

Why wouldn't you? Cos the material requirements are pretty mad. It would mean that on order to be competitive you'd have to grind weekly. Not good for the game. Pvp already has a high price of entry, with the high skill level and engineering (which is only done ONCE per loadout) premium ammo more than doubles the cost to be competitive in terms of pure hours spent on ship and commander preparation. Fortunately I can tell you that premium isn't yet the norm, but paranoia will push it that way, and kill pvp in this game even more unless fd does something.

While slightly immersion breaking, I admit, the most elegant solution is for it to have no bonus effect on player ships. But fd very rarely approve of things that treat npcs and players differently, which has its good points and its bad points. Tricky one.

“Weekly”

I get a hollow square monthly at best.
Actual PvP?

I’m going grey waiting.
