Down To Earth Astronomy Shutting Down In December

I thought the Cotswolds were ruined ever since the Diddly Squat Farm set up shop there...
Isn't that Oxfordshire?

My old haunts in East Anglia are likely to be fogged in, rather than drowned out in light pollution.

Here, a drive into the Ozark Mountains will get you a dark sky- and possibly a machine-gunning by locals.

The conventional observing sites:

Hey, at least, thanks to him, even people on the old continent know that the Cotswolds exist :).

(Disclaimer: I love Clarkson. I think he's one of the funniest persons.... in the world!)
The problem with driving to an adequate dark sky location is not just the time for the drive but the age it takes for the eyes to recover from the dazzle from everyone’s headlights.

I quite like the Clarkson that did the interesting WW2 documentaries, the one who celebrates his fake ignorance I find amusing for a few minutes and annoying for months after.

Plenty of light pollution around the old base (even without UFO landings) - Ipswich, Woodbridge, Martlesham, Rendlesham, loads of surrounding villages, have all expanded since the base was shut down...

Of course, drop down onto the coastline and provided your desired sky is across the water, it can be rather nice.

East Anglia still retains much of its charm - as envinced by the number of 2nd homes and house prices in 'desirable places' (those same places where locals would also love to live) reaching spectacular highs, some even making London prices seem paltry!
