downsampling from 4k vs. 1080p+smaa?

Done this in beta 3.09 and gamma 2.05 with nvidia driver panel.

Downsampled from 2x1080p to 1080p without AA .
Noticed barely a difference.

I'm using DSR another way by creating a custom resolution and selecting it in ED on a 1080p monitor. It is noticeably more detailed while having better antialiasing between screen pixels so less sparkles on edges. Details like scratches on the cobra dash on the sides are more defined and some of the lines like supercruise lines look thinner

gtx 970 downsampling from x2 to 1080p smaa enabled (don't know how much difference this makes).

Noticeably better, much less jagged edges and that nasty shimmering effect you get from all the jaggies moving.

And what resolution is this pray tell?

4k pushes my GTX970 a little too hard with head tracking at stock speed so I run 1440p scaled down to 1080p in a borderless window. Thats on a 32" monitor.

Are you using DSR to do this? Not much experience with downsampling, but hearing so much about it is making me think I'm missing a trick.

My GPU, 780 GTX doesn't have DSR so not sure if there is another way?

Downsampling gives better image quality.

I use 2880x1620 DSR resolution with 20% DSR smoothness. I have GTX 780 graphics card and a 1080p 27" 120Hz display.

I did a 4K to 1080p DSR downsampling on a GTX 750 Ti just to see if the visual quality is any better. It dropped to around 8 FPS, but it sure looked nice. Nice enough to make me decide to get a GTX 980 just so that I can play like this on a decent framerate.

My 970 can`t handle 4k properly , you`ll need SLI for that.
But it can maintain 2715x1513@60fps (doubled amount of pixels compared to 1920x1080) and it looks much better on my 27"
In 1080p the geometry of the stations looks horrible with all the jaggies.

DSR + games own AA solution. (FXAA or SMAA) works nicely.
PostAA is done before scaling so edges do get nice gradients and it helps DSR to work better.

Currently using DSR + FXAA, as FXAA reduces very small sparkly aliasing and it's smoothing doesn't reduce image quality as much with decent amount of DSR.

Just add a custom resolution under nvidia panel, then you can choose that resolution under graphics settings of ED.

How do you use DSR on a 780? i thought it was only available for 900 series.

There's a nice little article here, talking about, and showing, comparisons between DSR and various AA methods. Also goes into the smoothness setting.

anyone tried downsampling this game using nvidia DSR or ATI equiv.?

visual quality better or largely the same?

I use 3200x1800 VSR on a 2560x1440 native resolution monitor and it's an improvement.

ED is probably one of the best games to be using DSR/VSR or other forms of forced super sampling in because all the in game text and HUD elements are 3D surfaces anyway, and won't be screwed up by the downsampling.

I gave DSR 3840x2160 ->1980x1020 a go on my 980.

Image was absolutely brilliant. FPS dropped to 30-40 inside stations though.

I'm really curious about the FPS on a GTX 970 for the same thing. Can anyone tell what the FPS is on a GTX 970 when using DSR 4K->1080p? Thanks!
