Draw off security for smuggling

I've read a lot about going unscanned to get through the mail slot, but has anyone tried smuggling in pairs? Ex. I drop out of sc with my wig-mate and he's smuggling, would it be possible for me to draw the security away from the entrance and let him just waltz in?

IIRC there's practically no chance of getting scanned if you're fast enough so you don't need a wingman or anything really. What would be a better option perhaps is to have actual security patrols around a system and you would have to sneak in, using things to mask/hide your approach, maybe finding data on their patrol routes, that kind of thing.

Just engineer a cold ship. its easy to smuggle even without specialisation.

*wishes smuggling was harder*

Hm, even if tried, it'll only lure a single Ship away (occasionally Patrol seems in a Wing of 3 though, so can be 2 Eagles following a scanning Viper).

As others said, it's almost impossible to get scanned around Stations.
Anything that's capable of doing some ~200m/sec will literally never ever get scanned, as the Patrols are way too slow to Trigger and approach & complete such a Scan.

I would say it would not work; simply because they fly in wings and there are a number of them. Your mate maybe able to distract one wing, but not all. The other flaw in your plan is; if your 'wing mate' becomes wanted, then so do you.

Nice idea for some role play though.

I have been flying a T9 through the slot for the last couple of days with 400 ton loads of Bonded labour and Drugs. You can't hurry in a T9 so i find its best to fly casual and drop a heatsink about 1km out and then fire another as you close in. Not been caught yet.

I like the way you think though.

I once flew an Unknown Artifact into Blackmount Orbital because I was pretending to be a red team and testing out their security measures. Didn't change a thing I'd normally do if I was bringing a load of tea in. Needless to say they failed.

No wingmate necessary unfortunately. I've smuggled anacondas filled with slaves into the highest security stations without hardly trying. I wish you needed to do things like draw away the security, or learn their route, or have other ways of getting things into a station other than the front door. There are a lot of things they could do to make smuggling better, let's hope they do someday.

You're all jolly silly to post that you're smuggling. The toast probably read this y'know.

I have never smuggled and never will. Nothing to see here.

Aps.

Yes it does, I've been doing it for years in everything ranging from a Cobra up to a T9.

Ive been engaged and hit by turret mounted annie NPCs and cargo scanned out at maximum scan ranges by station security in a ridiculous ice cold DBS in recent times.

Too late to the party mate.

Smuggling got risk-nerfed in 2.1. You cannot fail at it now literally and would be hard pressed to fail at it figuratively.

Can pretty much pretend it's a normal cargo delivery mission provided you enter stations in a straight line.

The state of smiuggling really shows how disconnected FDev are to adding in any decent kind of gameplay. At least before they nerfed it (because people were having fun), it was somewhere decent. You would have smuggling runs and could fail the mission entirely if you got scanned once and people came after you.

Now what do we have - absolutely nothing. It's yet another delivery mission really. Go to A and take X to B. Where's the imagination? There isn't any just like in practically all the mission types. They barely make the grade for "missions" anyway as they're all so lacking. Everyone here can think of better smuggling mechanics that would be fun but we don't have them.

Let's hope the next DLC seriously addresses the massive lack of content in the missions.

Mk1 eyeball. Silent or cold running: It doesn't matter if you are running an ice cold ship or have your heat vents closed with zero output, you can still be spotted and engaged visually
