Just made my first planetary landing - eventually. Switched to the SRV and expected to drive it using the joystick throttle for power and the joystick for direction. However it wont budge in any direction. It hasn't crashed because I can still get the power management to switch between the three system/engine/weapons. I can select activate turret but nothing happens after this. Now I admit I just landed on the planet just to try out, I didn't set down at a base or anything. I recalled the ship but can't get back on board. Am I in big trouble????

The SRV uses Q and E to control the throttle. Try re-mapping Q and E to your joystick's up/down whenever you want to use the SRV.
My friend also had the same problem.

If the joystick has an actual throttle slider this wouldn't be an ideal solution. You'd want to map to the throttle axis instead.
Also: if you're not used to using Full Range on your throttle then you'll want to notice that Full Range is the default setting for the SRV and fix that while you're in there.

Gotta travel a bit of a distance away from where it's docked (I think it's 4km or something?) and then look down in the SRV and you'll have the option to call it in. (Alternatively, just go back to where it's docked and request to dock with your ship.)

edit :nevermind, after sitting and staring at the different screens a Board Ship option appeared.

Someone said on the forums yesterday that your ship should just show up in your contacts as "CMDR [Name]" and you request just like you would with a station. Then you just drive your SRV underneath your ship, look down so that the new menu pops up, and then you have the option to return to the ship.
That is exactly how it works.
