Dropship Suggestion

Core dynamics, I believe

And yeah it may have just been more simple to buff the current model than to completely make a new one.

But I love me some ship stats. Can't wait to play around with the ship yard

Indeed it would have, which means that the Original Dropship might have a roll later on for planetary landings, while the new one is a bone thrown to players who enjoy the ship and want to use it for combat.

Why? What is the current one hurting? And the new one sound's like it was converted to a gunship, which leave's the other still useful to those who actually bothered learning to pilot it.

The dropship mk2 and the federal gunship will be two separate craft.

I think if the dropship mk1 was buffed to be on par with the clipper that would have made more sense than a completely new ship.

But! As I said, I love new ships. Favorite part of the game is the ships so the more the better.

How about, when the Dropship II hits stores, they retire the original?

I like the idea though I would give existing dropship owners the option to keep the old one (for collectors/nostalgia), or trade it in for full value.

From what I understand, the MK II isn't meant to replace the MK I. Instead, it is a specialized version of it. For instance, look at the C-130 in real life. The "base version" is a very flexible transport aircraft. The AC-130 Spectre gunship is a (ridiculously cool) combat-focused version of the C-130. In a fight, the AC-130 is objectively superior. It has some serious firepower. It did not "replace" the C-130 however, since the C-130 is capable of being used for other purposes.

It's not a new ship. It's a mod to an old one.

Not if they wanted to change the weapons. They had to change the mesh and all the animations to do that.

Okay, but you're spitting hairs. The mod ship will be new to the game, ergo the mk2 is a new ship that bares resemblance to a pre existing ship.

The DBs and the DBx share a name and an art style but are significantly different in terms of stats. Almost opposite sides of the spectrum. It would be unwise to consider them similar other than size/model.

The ds mk1 and the ds mk2 will likely share that relationship.

Also the guns are about the only thing I actually like about the DS mk1. Perfect placement and nice dps output. However speed, internals, shields, and handling could all use a buff. None of which requires a change in the model/texture map/ mesh.

Much more simple to buff than to create a mod. Now the feds get 2 dropship while the imps get 2 awesome small craft and a beauty big one.

Can't wait to see that gunship though.

They described the Dropship Mk. 2 as if it wouldn't have as good a cargo capacity but better offense and defense as a tradeoff, I used the term gunship just because of lack of better descriptive word. ;)

I'd rather see both kinds flying around, like the above. Removing ships is pointless if they've already done all the model work for it, and if it's just a stat buff they wouldn't have called it the Mk. II. Otherwise what's the Python now? Mk. 0.8?

The Mk1 Cobra has been entirely phased out by the Mk3 Cobra, where the Mk1 Cobra only existed in used ship lots back 3250. The Mk2 Cobra was so objectively terrible it never went into full production.

I see the "Mk1 Dropship" as being an equivalent of the Mk2 Cobra, where all existing examples would be chopped up for scrap.

Feds are also getting a "Gunship" model along with the Mk2 Dropship.

I'm hoping for a 4 large version of the 3 large/2medium Python with Core Dynamics styling. Why is the Python so good anyways, it's a 600 year old design.

Didn't they already reveal it's going to have 1 large, 4 medium, 2 small hardpoints?

Aside from that it will probably have too small a Powerplant and too few internal compartments, like all pure combat ships in the game so far.

How about, when the Dropship II hits stores, they retire the original? Some players love it but from what I've seen, most consider it a junk ship, not worth having. "Dear customers, thank you for your patronage; due to obsolescence, the original Federal Dropship will no longer be appearing in shipyards. However, we here at whichever company we are promise to continue to provide parts and service for the same fee to those who already own one." Yeah, i forget which company... Was it Faulcon deLacy?

Don't you come close to my Dropship. It is MY Dropship, and I intend to keep it.

Seriously, why would the devs retire a perfectly usable ship ? Just leave it there, and put another variant as an option for everybody to buy.

It's like saying "the Adder is better than the Hauler, the devs should remove the Hauler"

Yeah, I just have a thing for X shaped two plane symmetrical ships. As for the powerplant, use the python's internal bay configuration since it has a class 7 powerplant. More or less asking for a ship with the same stats as a python but shaped like in a Core Dynamics (federation) style.

Why not just buff the existing one instead? Just for the extra publicity ("look everyone, we made a new ship")? Just so that owners of the existing ship have to buy a new one, with probably even a modified design (which they may or may not like compared to the original Dropship)?

Imo either the new Dropship should be a true variant for a different niche, like the DBS and DBE fit into different niches, or it shouldn't exist at all and the old one should simply be improved.

Core Dynamics will also remove the ballast which was accidentally left on the Dropships which will reduce the hull mass from a 580 tons to a 350tons which will increase jump range and shield strength. Spokesmen for the company say that it was very silly that a brand new ship using the latest in technology would be nearly twice as heavy as ships built half a millennium before so it was odd that nobody noticed until now.

Something like that?

No, not if the new Dropship has some physical and functional differences. I like different variants of dropship models.
The Mark II is said to be more combat oriented. So perhaps the original could be considered more cargo oriented.
I like that. And if it has a notably different appearance I would like it even more.

I already posted this but it is appropriate to post it here again.
These are concept designs for the Federal Dropship.
I would love it if the Mark II would look something like design A, with larger, slanted wings and the cockpit higher up the hull.
We would be able to clearly see the relatedness of the models, but they would look different enough to be easily distinguishable.
