Is there anyway to turn of the probe tail flare on the dss scanner probes as they are giving me a headache.

go to options > graphics > quality and turn off FX QUALITY

Nice one muroko (though this may turn off other things too? probly worth it if it's making you ill though)

That does take away some of the other FX. Think I will stick to parking a bit too the right of the planet I'm going to probe.

They do bother me if I am to close to the planet when I send them- really bright. So send them earlier

Indeed - no need to face the planet you probe and if you probe from side or rear the gravity well can be avoided better
