Dual monitor setup

Hi, noob question (I searched this forum first but found no such thread)
I have a desktop with 2 monitors hooked up. One is a 2560x1440 and the other 1920x1080.
I've seen many play with three monitors which is great but is there a possibility to use only two monitors to play the game?
If so, how can I do it? Is there a choice in the Setup/Settings that I can check to enable it?
Thanks!

I am using dual monitors on my desktop. My specific question was about setting up the game "Elite: Dangerous" to use both monitors, not just one.
I'm rephrasing my original question: how/where can I set up Elite: Dangerous to run on two monitors instead of just one?

Thanks.

I've run triple monitors in the past, but transitioned to a 34" monitor for a much better ED experience.

In your case you have 2 monitors that aren't the same resolution, so you'll probably have to set the 1440p monitor to the lower 1920X1080 resolution to get a "reasonable" result in ED, but even then the result is likely to be disappointing.

I'd recommend just playing ED on the 2560X1440 monitor an using the second monitor for supporting your game play with the 3rd party sites available. That way you won't have to alt tab out of ED to look up things on Inara or eddb, etc.

Even so - if you really want to try it, you need to set it up in the graphics card software first and then in the ED graphics settings. The software for the graphics card will depend on what your using, but should be easy to find the instructions online for your particular card.

Thank you, this reply does indeed help. I appreciate it!
I have Radeon RX570 with 8 GB DDR5 at 1750MHz, I'll look for documentation and software.
Cheers!

Another problem you would have with a 2 monitor setup is that the black bevels of the two monitors would be right down the middle of the cockpit view. as GJ51 above recommends I'd advise just using the one screen for ED and the other for all the websites etc that make such a difference.

which graphics are you using? ATI or nVidia? if nVidia, you have to span both monitors together in nVidia panel. Not sure on ATI

Edit: and no, they can be different resolutions because when You span them together, the screen will become 1 sort of speak with 1 resolution across both.

hello, sorry to ressurect an ancient thread, but I've just gotten a dual-screen laptop and taken the opportunity to come across from console to pc. in windows, my screens are designated as extended, primary and secondary. I can move cursor and other app windows seamlessly between or across them. The are both 14.1", 2880x1800, 16:10. In an effort to make the ED screen readable I'm currently running without steam overlay, fullscreen, and native resolution. However, although windows considers the two screens to be one extended display, ED does not. It requires me to select either primary or secondary, and resolutions up to the maximum of a single screen. Is there a specific thing I'm doing wrong, please

I should say, that even choosing windowed mode - i can drag the window halfway between the screens, but in settings i still have to choose a monitor and the max resolution is the resolution of one screen.

Extended mode extends the workspace to cover the two monitors. You will see from the display settings window, however, that Windows still considers them to be two independent displays.

To have the game display over two independent monitors, you will need to use your GPU driver to create one virtual display, as Strontium Dog suggests.

Personally, I don't think it will be a good experience - the game is not designed with being spanned over multiple displays in mind. I used to run the game over a triple monitor setup. This worked because the main UI elements would always be rendered in the centre screen. The screens on the left and right really only served to enhance peripheral vision. The main issue with this (apart from the performance impact of rendering 200% extra pixels) was the fish-eye effect - the left and right images were noticeably stretched.

With two monitors displaying a single viewport, there are going to be consequences - the screen will be split in half, with the midway point in the centre of the viewport splitting the rendered screen in half. It will be seriously distracting.
