Dumb games I play while playing Elite

Good day Commanders,
I've been roaming around the Pleiades just exploring and whatnot.
Was in the SRV gathering materials and I realized I was playing a game of "the ground is lava" with it.
When I shoot the materials, if it goes up in the air I race to get it before it hits the ground.
I can't be the only one who's done this kinda thing, right?
If so, share your mini game here, might get some inspiration to try fun things.

When viable enough, I tend to play the game as though it's how I'd like it to be, if that makes any sense.
Basically what that means is that I don't bother much with certain ways of playing the game even though they may be more effective or efficient.

On the one hand it handicaps my potential in the game; on the other, I get to proportionally enjoy those aspects of the game that I like a bit more than I would otherwise.

I'm generally out in the black in a Vulture that's combat loaded while Exploring. After 5 years since the Engineers have been implemented, I've only managed to Engineer FSDs. I also play the game as a survivalist and have never lost an SRV and haven't lost any ships since 2015, knock on wood.

Don't get me wrong; I'd rather like Engineering my ships more, it's just that it seems I can't stomach the process. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.

Cheers.

Yep, been there, done that.
But i was kinda forced to do so because for more than 6 months (on XBox*) shooting Crystal Shards would have a 50% chance to release a fragment type that would lack collision detection with the ground and it will fall through the planet.
So the only way to pick those fragments was to scoop them while airborne.

* IIRC on PC the bug had a different manifestation.

When bio hunting I try to do my 3rd scan at a location where I can also start my first scan of the next plant.

When flying in supercruise I use the Magellanic clouds, Andromeda and other skybox features to fly the correct way 'up' (ie as per the galaxy map).

I used to have a rule that if I found an occupied (or damaged) escape pod I must attempt rescue, meaning all my ships had to have at least some cargo capacity and an SRV. The changed behaviour of planetary POIs in Odyssey has put a stop to that, in populated space they are everywhere now, and out in the black there seem to just be none.

I also played the stuff I enjoyed. It didn't get me anywhere when engineers released.
