Dumbest way you lost your ship?

Well, my problem was accidentally hitting it inside a station. In my Anaconda. (sigh) Only time I ever lost that damn thing.
I think you'll have to disable the boost button altogether on your set-up .. it's only chance you 've got ;)
.... Might take that advice myself :D

I went out exploring, off to go see Betelgeuse in person (on of the largest supermegagiants nearby, even bigger than Arcturus!).

WOW was it big. bummer no planets though. Oh! how i died: I decided to fuel skim Betelgeuse. I dont recommend it.

There I was, supercruising in pretty much a straight line as I skimmed the giant, when my heat level got a little high (90%- before new heat levels), so I peeled away and supercruised away to cool down.

99%.. still heating up... 15.1 C speed- disntance from star 75ls.. wth?! 120% uhh ok.. [looked around] Betelgeuse still filled entire rear hemisphere of my view..
160%- cracks in the window start creeping. Cold chill hits me (or is it hot chill?)= I'm a LONG way from home or a repair station.
190%- alarms flaring dashboard on literal FIRE.
240% cockpit window fails hull and all systems ~25% and failing/frying
275%- I figure I would be dead by this point, so took hands of HOTAS and sat and watched in horror.

Died. Dont fuel skim SuperMegagiants. Their heat zone goes out for days. Light-Days.

When I was new to the game I didn't realize you could run out of gas. I got the "Not enough fuel for jump" message, didn't have a base in system and couldn't find a system closer to jump too. I also didn't know about the Fuel Rats, so I didn't know what to do. The first thread I found on the subject said my only option was to Self-Destruct. Didn't know you could do that either. I did, and I nearly walked away from the game that day. Only a friendly forum member stopped me.

I am not sure where I lost my ship! I know I parked it somewhere, but I cannot remember where!

The only way to find it again is to hitch a ride to Jameson station and buy a special FOB. The you have to wander from station to station clicking it insanely until you hear the familiar a"beep beep"

exited supercruise at an outpost, hit boost, requested docking, cut throttle to let docking computer take over; Apparently I was lined up directly with the landing pad, the ship did not slow down nearly enough and i bonked right off it

Waiting outside the station, above the dock thinking I was going to kws some folk coming out ... Yeah I shot the station! ;) Wrong fire group!
But you didn't shoot the deputy!
I got clocked by one of those stations with the long arms while admiring my shiny Chrome Cobra in Debug Camera. No slingshot effect unfortunately.
I have also jammed my Viper inside the Fed's Capital Ship and couldn't back it out. Self Destructed, did no damage unfortunately to the CapShip.

loitering inside the station I got really nervous after the event that I deployed my weapons and fired at the station. Yeah I know rookie mistake

Having recently died I thought it was a good idea to recoup my losses by going bounty hunting in an asteroid field in the dark and taking on a wing in an asp. They shoot down my shields I boost away -Bang big pitch black asteroid. Killed by npcs shameful :(

I was having fun around the rings of a station until I bumped very very very slowly on something, problem is it was slow with my relative speed since I was going in the same direction, but the game interpreted it as a high speed collision and my full shielded pristine ship got destroyed.

I had just discovered that the system map could be mapped to a key, so I mapped it to my joystick. Then as I flew to my station to dock, I accidentally hit the map key and had to sit there and watch as the stupid little loading map ring appeared and locked me out of ship controls while my Asp gracefully flew over to hug the outside walls of the station.

Well I must be the worst Commander going, I have lost ships to NPCs in combat - oh the horror!

But self-inflicted losses, different story. Probably my worst was my first foray into a RES. Did pretty well until two Anaconda's decided to gang up on me in my little Cobra. Battled fiercely until I lost my cockpit window. Never had the before so a little panic kicked in since I only had a 'E' Life Support and 5 minutes isn't a lot.

In the ensuring panic, lost all sense of reasoning, couldn't see any of the hud cues to know where I was going so had to kind of guess the vectors to the nearest station. Managed to get into SC and head in roughly the right directly but had no idea if I was lined up for the SC exist at the end. When all the bars were blue, hit the button(s) to drop out of SC only to find myself 40KM away from the station with about 45 seconds of air left. Didn't make it, cursed with my last breath!

Then I realised I could have used the compass to line up - first D'Oh moment. Second D'oh moment was when I discovered that upgraded Life Support modules aren't very expensive. Now, whenever I buy a new ship, the first module I buy is an A Class Life Support. 25 minutes is a long long time now lol

Sitting at idle while topping my tank off at a local sun.... when BLANG... interdicted.... so I started to follow the escape target only to fly straight into the sun. full load of rares on board.

Man. I hear you. I once interdicted somebody and they took a wild escape route between two close binaries. I stupidly, by instinct, followed. Most hair-raising experience I've had.

A few months ago in a galaxy very, very close...

...I may or may not have allegedly had too many beers one night (or just enough, depending how you look at it), and tried docking at the wrong pad in a station.

Thankfully that is the only time I've payed the insurance bill for being "dumb..."

...so far. ;)

I have blown my ship up twice in the game, and both times were dumb and dumber in that chronoloy.

First time was pre-update before they changed the way that shields were impacted when hitting asteroids. I had just got my x52 pros, and I was "tooling" around an RES. I was really gun happy and loving the new x52 set up. Anyway, one of the rotational sticks on the top left of the joystick portion of the set up allowed you to cycle through the ships to scan. I am cycling through each ship looking for ships I haven't scanned yet since I scanned all of the miners, non-scanned ships were pirates, unless of course they were cops, which were green to me anyway. So, I am pushing the Vulture between the asteroids like I am Buck Rogers, scanning while boosting. I know how to handle my ship, but just like when you change that radio station in your car while driving on the highway, my eyes are off the road - or asteroid field - and as I boosted I look up at the screen away from the scanner and what do I see filling up my screen? A massive floating asteroid. Evasive manuervers? Yeah... what wasn't happening at that point. It was, Boost... what is that... oh no... bam... eject... boom; and eye rolling to end the cycle. 1,000,000 claim.

Second time I was running a smuggling mission in my Clipper. I boosted to get into the station to avoid scan, and may have been a bit overzealous and went a little too fast through the entrance. At that time I was just starting out smuggling missions, now I can fly right into the station leisurely, without the ship in quiet mode, and not a single scan... and we are talking about a Python now. Anyway, after passing the landing point at the start of the station, and about half way through the station I just started slowing down, full reverse, even landing gear to stop the forward inertia. I ended up stopping just short of doing a belly flop into the station lasers in the back of the station. Here is where it gets dumb. I fly back towards the front of the station heart pumping, but trying to go nice and easy to land on the docking pad right at the front. I quickly get over the nervousness of almost impaling my ship into the back lasers and decided to use the down thrusters while turning into the pad, like I am doing a back flip... with a Clipper no less. Problem was I pushed the downward thrusters too long and although at this point I am pointing forward for the landing the yaw bounced me right off the ground and into a different landing pad to the left. Immediately, I hear the welcoming warning sound and a 30 second timer to get out of the unauthorized landing pad space. I start to thrust up, and I am not moving anywhere. I thrust right, I thrust left, down, up, throttle up, back, every which way... nothing. Stuck! I ended up getting the left wing stuck under one of those archways that have the fixed commercial tubes - used for industrial station ambience. 3, 2, 1... lasers destroy my ship. 4.5 million dollar claim, and to add insult to injury, a Dormant Bounty of 1200cr by the Station's Faction.

Those are my flops. Do I get blown up by another ship, no... I do it to myself. Apparently, I am my worst enemy.
