"Dungeon Finder" for Elite: Dangerous

Let's give Euro Truck Simulator 2 in space ... I mean Elite: Dangerous's online play more of a reason to exist than an anti-piracy measure.

Get any number of friends with you and queue up for a "flex-raid" station defence scenario for fun, rep and loots.
Qeue time: 1 second. Instance ready. Initiating Frameshift Drive in 5...4...3..2..1.... *Boomph*

You now zone into a station defence scenario, your friends vs progressively more difficult waves of enemies exiting FSD every 1 minute.
Survive all waves and you get 200K (or more, which scales with the size of your party, which in turn scales the encounter) and some Rep with the local station.

There. A solution to making Elite: Dangerous actually worth playing with others, as oppossed to being Euro Truck Simulator 2 in space.

And yes, I am aware there are warzones you can jump into with your friends, after 2 hours of logistical preparations, only to have 1 one of your friends have to go to sleep for work tommorow, or having to eat dinner at the table after actually meeting up at the same part of the galaxy after 30 minutes of route planning and waiting around for others to return after constant DC's and one of the friends QQing about how his sister is hogging all of the bandwidth...

BUT there are more efficient ways to make a computer game fun. Dungeon Finder.

Even though I see why you think that could be enjoyable, the dungeon finder for example in WoW is - while convenient - one of the single worst inventions in the game, ever. Since it was introduced in BC I never really knew where the dungeons and therefore their entrances where located in the gameworld. Traveling became pretty pointless in , with so many spells, items and convenience functions ("Have group, have travel"? Argh...) that the game lost any sense of scale.

No, I don't want to magically transport from one place in this huge galaxy to another, just to be able to chain instant gratification to instant gratification. Travel is an essential part of ED and I don't want it to be optional.

Apart from the instant travel aspect of the dungeon finder, I like the idea of missions/scenarios for multiple players. This should, however, always require the individual pilots to manually meet at the mission point and not give them a shortcut to some station hundreds of light years away.

People actually play those truck simulator games? Like, what is the appeal?

Actually I play Truck Sim for real and believe me, I would much rather be flying my Viper...;-) I just realised, I'm a professional driver and that makes all non pro's amateurs......I feel better now.

I see where you're coming from, but I don't think FD would consider adding a feature that brings players together that ignores your FSD's range.

I think we will see improved multiplayer features and then perhaps multiplayer missions in the new year - so as long as your mates hang out in the same region of space, you'll be able to find some trouble together soon enough.

By the way, last week I managed to cross ~150LY to meet up with a mate in about 15 mins. Rapid long range flight is a decent skill to master, particularly if you like to trade rare goods.

So boring now as it is though. I want to buy the game for friends, but I've no idea what i'd be doing in the game with friends. Griefing other players with friends is just kind of against my idea of a good time.

I am looking forward to the 3 Cmdr save slots, this will allow you to leave a commander in the general area of your friends. ;)

'Wings' are coming in january but if you need a dungeon finder maybe you should save the money for when the game matured a bit more

And that is the problem. There is also lots of animosity to anything like grouping mechanics. The argument being that the "sandbox world" gets ignored by players once instant group instancing is made available. It's a massive blind spot in the E D development.

How long until E D matures, will it survive long enough to mature ?

Last week someone was asking if this was akin to euro truck simulator in space, NOT to troll but because he loves those kind of games
When we explained them all he could do in game he just rushed to buy it and download it

I never judge people tastes if they don't judge mine

What the hell are you talking about?? There is no animosity toward group mechanics, 'wings' (groups) are coming early 2015
Are you trolling?? NVM, "How long until E D matures, will it survive long enough to mature ?". yes, you are trolling

I agree, it's bizarre how people argue against such common sense things like group mechanics.

Also, Elite is not even a sandbox game, we can't build anything.

What is this "Euro truck in space"?

I've earned credits and all I do is pirate players, steal their cargo among popular routes for rare commodities they trade, bounty hunt, etc.

Also a "Finder" or "queue" wouldn't work, what you propose is an okay idea but it doesn't need to be constrained into a "finder", but occur more dynamically in the game.
