DW02 ruined in one simple step.

My whole point is not anger that anyone can mine now, just disappointment at the pointlessness of primary/secondary roles, and a disappointing feeling that I was part of something cool that is now obviously a scripted and pampered husk of a real journey which will not by any means fail. Literally impossible that it will fail.
That's community goals in general though. If it isn't a pair of opposing CGs, then it's practically impossible that a goal will fail.

...Depends upon how keen you are with the mining. Personally... Nah. Not so much. Blowing up rocks is OK for an hour or so but it soon gets repetitive and doesn't pay anywhere near enough to make the activity worth the flaff for me.

I'm the opposite, I love mining in Elite, and 3.3 made it SSSSOOOOOOO much more fun! I can't wait to do some deep space core mining this weekend. Next to exploring mining is my favorite activity in Elite, and since 3.3 I'm still undecided if I might even like it MORE than exploring now!

So my optimism balances out your pessimism Susanna! :D

I'm not really talking about wether ot not the cg can fail. The expedition was what I was referring to in terms of scripted and pampered.

So they script it and pamper to a majority of the players. (By the way, having mining equipment at a mining port seems like the right script to me). Makes it more fun for the general population, yet offends a small group that gets their feelings hurt. Why would anyone be upset over making the game more fun for 90% of the player base? I'm not getting the butt-hurtedness of this whole discussion.

Meh, I think there's enough room for some sensible head canon. Big fleet coming to do mining getting the word out months ago, so the station might well stock up in anticipation before the fleet arrives. If there's something to sell, some will generally find a way to sell it.

Still no module swapping/restocking fees though? Guess it's built into the cut the Pilots Federation gets. :S

Might send for my Python to help out now though. We'll see.

I hear Rohini has a shipyard. Any closer?

So if pampering and altering the galaxy for player comfort is fine then maybe they could have countered that with maybe pirates in the omega area. Not seen 1 and I have been in and out of hotspots all day. Pirates weren't given a heads up on a fleet of 10,000 potential miners?

Not only is my role as a miner now pointless, now the denfense roles also become useless?

As I said prior, this is pampering.

I agree with your point about putting lots of pirates in the area to make it difficult, especially to those who never even tried mining back in the bubble.

Your role can still be miner.....not sure how what others choose to do affects your role. If I want to temporarily change from explorer to miner, then how does that hurt you?

For me it takes away from the feel of an epic, gruelling test of a journey. Now it has a pampered feel to it. Rather than a group of players making their way through the galaxy, the galaxy is coming to us. bubbly and happy.
Would be different if during the prep process they ran a CG to build a cargo megaship which we would then have to guard/repair and guide to the sites. Instead we get magic injections of goodness from the skygods, who shall make sure this player made expedition is a success.

Some of that can't be done at this time.

But let's point out, that this is only 5 kylies away from the bubble. We've only just started our journey! There's still many more weeks (17) to go. Plenty of outback and unseen places.

Correct i can still be a miner, but the fact it was a chosen role was rendered irrelvant.

So personally it took away from signing up to do a specialized job. "For the first time ever, Prospecting and Mining will have a practical role to play on a deep space expeditionary event, with miners at the forefront of the industrial aspect of Distant Worlds 2." would have been better worded as "Not a role, but part of the community goal, mining gear available at the cg, travelling as a mining vessel can be done, but is entirely unessesary and would probably limit the amount of exploration friendy modules you can fit"

As for Fdev stepping in to move the galaxy around for us, cg completion might as well be at 100% especially with the lack of npc pirates and the PG's(logical) lock out on player kills(murder)

I still get the attitude of "Since I signed up for the role of miner, I want to be able to do it and I don't want anyone else to do it"....sounds a bit childish.

If thats how you read it then have at it.

My main point is not that others can mine, it is that the role of the miner was instantly killed...

Well, ED has "done" a group of players making their way through the galaxy. I'm pleased that something slightly new and different is being tried at checkpoints on the way. The megaship idea sounds fun, though.

I don't really have any strong feeling one way or the other about the whole issue here, but this point at least is wrong. The system is populated, so there are going to be NPC pirates around.

In theory yes, in my last 6 hours of hopping in out out of hot spots, scanning all visible ships in the system. I have seen zero wanted, zero non mining NPC in the rings. Hopefully when the sky gods pamper the unprepared tomorrow they will also unleash the kraken

I understand the need for meaningful consequences and choices, but...

A mining facility stocking up on mining equipment when a known large fleet of miners are heading over seems perfectly reasonable, not the hand of a pandering god or some such. If anything, a flaw in the technical limitations of the game that it couldn't account for this sort of thing in the first place.

So in return pirates would have that knowledge also...and the place should be out of control with criminals looking to feed their kids.

Who's unprepared? Most of us probably have modules sitting around in storage that can be used, or you can fly to Rohini and pick up most of what you need (except for a Pulse Wave Scanner), or you can go to Rohini and have one of your mining ships delivered, or you can BuckyBall it back to the bubble and either re-outfit your ship or store modules and fly back.

All of these sound like stupid silly grind work for people that would love to help the CG goal, especially considering its a MINING PORT.......Again, I see no problem with that. Saving time for people that CAN MINE anyway if they choose to do one of the above. FD is just making it a tad bit easier. Again, I don't get your attitude toward the whole thing.

Yeah, that's really how I see it as well. Any store manager is going to order greater stock of anything that they know is going to be selling well soon for any reason.

Christmas is coming? Order extra stock of tickle-me-elmo dolls.
Department store is near the beach? Always stock extra sunscreen, towels, and goggles.
Hurricane is coming? Order extra stock of bottled water, alkaline batteries, and flashlights.

It's just how the world works in reality, but the game can't account for that automatically without help because the code base has no idea what DW2 is.
