[DW2] How many have dropped off?

+1 to this.

If EDSM originally was tracking 10k commanders, and now it says only 6k are left, then you can estimate that there is approximately 60% of the entire group left. So, if 15k people were in the starting set, then it is not an unreasonable estimate to guess that there are about 9k total left. Note, the numbers I give here are just examples, not actual numbers.

This is not to say that there are not systemic sources of bias in this estimate. For example, perhaps people who are logging data to EDSM are more "hardcore", and therefor less likely to drop off then the group of people who are not logging data. If this was the case, then perhaps the attrition rate for non-logging group would be higher than 40%.

In the absence of hard data to provide a quantitative correction for sources of bias, however, the best one can do is present the numbers we do know about (the starting number of tracked individuals and the remaining number of tracked individuals), and then extrapolate. It is important to always keep in mind that the uncorrected extrapolation is, at best, a rough guess (as said by Dr. Nagi)
Agree with your +1, percentage is the name :)

BUT ! it says here 6900 started(who use EDSM),not 10k -> https://www.edsm.net/en/expeditions/summary/id/58/name/Distant+Worlds+2+-+A+Voyage+of+Discovery
Also it reckons around 32% got to WP5, so if 15k started DW2, we have less than 5k still on DW2.

I reckon many will drop out after WP7.

I almost dropped out. I had made it out as far as WP3 in my Phantom. I even had my Cutter shipped out to WP2 and participated HEAVILY in the CG. But somewhere after WP3 I decided to head back "home". My son (11... I know, an 11 year old playing ED instead of Fortnite!!) started spending more time in game so I came back to do some fun wing activities with him. We had some great bounty hunting times, made a small fortune wing mining void opals, and tore up a Painite field or two with my Cutter. I even started toying with the BGS and propelled a lowly little minor faction up the food chain a bit. But alas, the fleet calls. I really wanted to make some time getting back out there so I changed my travel strategy a little bit. Grabbed an Anaconda and engineered it up pretty well. I'm pushing 77 LY jumps while still carrying shields, an SRV, repair and AFMU modules, and even a fighter hangar to fight off the boredom in the black at some point. That's a good 10% better jump than my Phantom was. As I type, I'm about to push off from my current home, 173 jumps to WP4 and should catch the fleet perhaps by the end of the week. Or should I say...

It's 21,000 light years to Dryau Ausms KG-Y e3390, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of heatsinks, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses. ... Hit it.

I don't know how many who has dropped off, but here, as promised, I am dropping ON!

Departure from Pallaeni at 1600 today:

I just can't keep up with the weekly pace. I am going nuts right now as I am stuck in Clooku and cannot seem to find a plot to get to waypoint 5? 4? I can't even tell anymore. If anyone is on Discord or Bone and can dm me, please send me a plot to get me out of there!!! I REFUSE to quit but I'm putting dents in my equipment with my forehead. I need to do a data drop and repair. If I keep head butting my poor console, afmu is gunna gimme the finger and refuse to help. Aaaaaaaarrrrgh... i need coffee, should brought the Krait with me so I'd have chocolate chip cookies.

I've gone Clooku too... :)

Yep, struggling with the weekly distances and time plans as well. It's no worries at all just jonking, but actually trying to -participate- and see stuff and, perhaps, even do a bit of exploration, the pace is well mad. The promise was for a "relaxed" trip this time around.

RL is just a lot busier than it was for 3302 so even though the pace is a bit slower than last time, the amount of stuff to do has increased. I know it's all optional, but all I time for is to jonk between waypoints and perhaps meet up with a few people. Given the next waypoint's not announced until Sunday night (ie, Monday morning for us) I'm perpetually in catch-up-mode, so it's not being nearly as much fun.

Not sure I will have the time nor incentive to keep up for much longer, especially once winter is over and I'll do other stuff on weekends as well. This makes me sad, as DW1 was the -best- gaming experience I ever had. I had high hopes for DW2, and, not dissing the organisers, but for me personally, DW2 so far has not been as good.

The movable feast will continue, until the dead dog party. Just like any other convention.

I've been having fewer lockups, freezes, and disconnection errors. :)

I visited the PoIs up to WP1, but had no time after that and have just raced to each subsequent WP (currently at WP6).

Until about 25 jumps before WP6, I'd just been flying the fastest route ED suggested, ffsing every system and mapping terraformables, WWs, ELWs, etc.

20 jumps out from WP6, I changed my route plotter to Neutron Star-boosted and it cut my jumps down to 5. I'm hoping that doing the same again will cut the number of jumps I need to make it to WP7. I have an AFMU on board though so that's not a problem.

Most of my trip so far has been Neutron-boosted :( There's no way I'd keep up otherwise. Interestingly my chosen route between WP6 & SagA* had almost no Neutron Stars..

The core seems to be light on neutron stars, at least according to the automatic route plotter w/ neutron boosts enabled.

I normally have a few hours each night from Sunday evening when they release the new list of POI's and the WP to Fri evening and have no probs at all in keeping up, in fact some times i detour up/down 1kly from POI to POI to get off the beaten track to get some firsts and still have plenty of time to stay with the fleet.

Sat and Sun are normally for IRL stuff like Golf/shopping etc. the time is perfect for my time.

I've finally made it to Polo Harbour (WP5). Had a lot going on, and like Micha feel am constantly going to be a week behind.
Polo doesn't have outfitting either, so can't get rid of this stupid bobble thing (thought I'd give it a whirl - the squadron thing, but I don't like it and now I seem stuck with it :()

Torn between buckying for a few hour to catch up and saying c'est la vie :/

Yeah, well bully for you to be in the "correct" timezone. For me and everybody else in APac they are released in the early hours of a Monday morning. Guess what? I'm sleeping [and then offksi to workski]. I've asked a few times for them to consider releasing on a Saturday evening instead but haven't even gotten a reply so, yeah, whatev's. I'll just mosey on best as I can.

I also get -very- little time during the week to play. Weekends are my main gaming time (at the moment; that will change in a month or two when I'll get even -less- time).

It isn't, you just probably ran into the "suppression zone". It's a corridor existing due to a programming error, where the more "exotic" stars like neutrons aren't generated as they should be. As things are, it goes straight through Sag. A*.

Alas, the time you have available to play this game each night frequently describes the time I have available to play this game each week. Last week was so hectic I didn’t get a chance to log in at all. That’s one of the ironies of my life at present: not a lot of time at home to play games, but thanks to mobile devices, I have plenty of spare time to spend on the forums.

I’ll get there eventually. The five busiest months at work are done, and it’s not quite NotWinter here yet, so I’ve got a month at least where I might get at least five hours a week to play.

There are very few neutron stars in the column about 2kly wide, centered on the core. It's a flaw in the StellarForge.

LOL, I see you already replied about this. I didn't spot that before posting the above. ;)

I'm glad you did post that, fascinating, i wonder what our resident Astrophysicist thinks of this. No way there are that many NS irl in our Galaxy.

Wow, I wasn't aware of that; that's an interesting bug. I wonder if it was to try to suppress having too many NS's in the Bubble rather than a bug per se.

But yeah, it's a shame that issues like this can't be fixed without vastly altering the state of the galaxy, which would be hugely immersion-breaking for people.
