E:D 360 backgrounds for use in SteamVR

For those of you using SteamVR I've created a few 360 degree screenshots you can use as a background.
Simply follow this link http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197970529543/myworkshopfiles/?appid=250820 or look them up using the SteamVR menu on desktop and select Workshop/Browse Workshop. You need to subscribe to a background first to download them, after that you can select them in VR by going to Settings and Environment.

N-joy!

I will probably make a few more if/when I come across some nice locations.
Note to FDev: the bookmarks coming to the galaxy map in 2.1 will be great for this, but it would be even better if we could SHARE the bookmarks even if only by editing a config file...

This is some very cool stuff.

Care to share how you make them ?

Never mind I found your other post :)

Do they need to be 4 K shots or something ? the highest I can go is 1920 x 1080

Thanks for the tips !

Hi Korben, 1920x1080 is fine. That will probably get you about a 7 or 8K spherical image and 8K is the recommended size by Valve.
Using 4K screenshots can result in a stitched image over 20K which is pretty neat but you will have to scale it down for SteamVR to be able to use it.

SteamVR does work with the Rift so you can see those backgrounds.
But the Oculus software does not allow you to replace its background, that's true enough.

Yes I found out that you can go to a panorama of about 120 Megs in size before SteamVR decides to not load it at all. It cerainly makes a big difference if you are inside a station. Everything is a lot more crisp when using 4k. Downsizing is easy enough in Paint.net

It is possible to make 4K screenshots even if your monitor does not support it.

Here is a short guide for NVIDIA users:

Anyway, thanks for the info, the shots came out great !

Oh, you don't have to do that stuff for NVidia to make 4K screenshots, that's build right in ED. Just press ALT + F10 (or CTRL + F10) and you'll make a 4K screenie!
You do have to be in solo mode, though. They disabled it in multiplayer since it will make your pc hiccup for 1 second and also interrupt network access so had the potential to be abused.
