E.D.ODYSSEY - Stealth on foot works. Simply: Allow it.

Context:

Your ship, upon approaching a settlement, has not entered the restricted fire zone, you haven't requested landing via radio contact, and you have not been scanned by another ship protecting the nearby airspace of the settlement. You have used your Scarab-SRV with the lowest thermal signature possible to cover the last few kilometers. You have walked the last few hundred meters, and once inside the perimeter, you were not scanned or identified by NPCs (neither guards, civilians, nor drones). No alarm has ever sounded, and to top it off; it's night, the darkness envelops everything, and no one knows you're there...

Request/Suggestion:

  • STOP the AUTOMATIC and NEGATIVE REWARDS AND NOTORIETY for eliminating npcs undetected.
(The same automatic mechanic applies to all foot missions (or situations) except when the targets are anarchists.)

I would love to do stealth takedowns in odyssey, and proprer ones too, like lethal and non lethal.
Frontier really needs to give us a knife for lethal ones.

And that's how the Pantless Bandits became a thing.
I never wear pants. My preferred clothing item is a bathrobe.

Personally I'm over the issue and I just kill everything. Just base yourself where an anarchy faction owns a nearby station and you can effectively ignore bounties and notoriety since you can pick up missions from the controlling faction, trade, rearm, refuel etc regardless of what you do.

The only thing i have a problem with is the notoriety for knocking people out with the overcharge function. I don't care about the bounties, its easy to pay them or turn yourself in, but I shouldn't get notoriety when I knocked people out.

just one of the threads where the knocking out of NPCs (or the lack thereof) is discussed:

I think this might have been a thing in the Alpha, but was removed due to the issues with the PEGI rating. Bottom line: NPCs you zap are dead.

I mean they should fix it then. It's pretty simple, why have an icon it's doing something it is not.
this is nothing to "fix". Odyssey would lose its PEGI 16 rating. The possibility of violence and abuse towards unconscious targets would mean it has to be PEGI 18.

Read the thread I linked or educate yourself otherwise on PEGI ratings.

No I mean they should remove the indicator that clearly indicates they are knocked out if they aren't knocked out and are indeed dead.

ah okay. Yeah, they probably should. It's probably a remnant of the Alpha and, frankly, way down the priority list of stuff to fix ;).
I would expect its likely a quick fix since its very likely just a flag in the code that is only applied in one specific scenario and results in multiple post where people are confused. I have to admit the PEGII rating is incredibly stupid as well. Its less harmful to kill someone than knock them out? But unfortunately FDEV has no control over that. I guess that puts everything else into context as well regarding the bounties, I have a strong feeling that is tied to the pegii ratings as well given how granular the restrictions are regarding awareness.

OK. So CMDRs want a non lethal option to attack NPCs.

Most places would still consider this some kind of assault and would still send you to jail.

I support OP’s suggestion.

I am pretty efficient at stealth work and use it whenever possible. My only slight reservation would be that, at least for me, it would make settlement missions too easy, with no consequences. On the plus side, anarchy settlements would gat a long-needed rest from constant raids.
