E:D update after Oculus update - no obvious info provided - any tips?

Hi all,

Noticed this morning that I needed to do an Oculus update and quickly after that an E:D update began. No information was provided with the game update.

I've posted this on the OVR forums as well but does anyone here have any tips - obviously I'm conscious of needing to be ahead of updates with respect to backups of my bindings and other environment stuff!

The ED update is just the 3.1.1 update that was done earlier today.

If you run the game from the launcher, then it will have had to update before you could play, and this is updating the Oculus version. We can only play the game with the version that ED release, unlike other software where you can wait and update at your leisure.

Thank you Faded; Ok. So not associated with the Oculous update. Good to know.
My update went smoothly thank the stars.
Sorry to hear Marcus.

Mine sits on (step 5 of 5) forever. The only way i get it to move is a fresh install of ED.... But thank G@D that my bindings stay.

It will eventually move on, apparently the Oculus software is opening every single file and checking it's integrity and due to elite having a lot of files it causes a massive I/O overhead and thus the extended time to complete this stage. I timed it at around 25 minutes on my system and that was on an SSD, would be even longer on a mechanical drive. Obviously this doesn't in any way detract from the fact that it is actually faster to delete and re-download the entire thing for many.

Can't you update it from the FD launcher before you start the Rift?

No, the version in Oculus home is a separate install (uses the same bindings and graphics options though). I play in VR and simply use the standard ED launcher install, but I also installed the Oculus version as the DASH software ran more seamlessly when used with that version. Since I don't often use DASH I very rarely run it from Oculus now, just keep it installed and updated.
