Earth texture extremely low res?

Why is Earth extremely low res even with texture detail set to Ultra?

This is supposed to be Australia, lol.

I'm sitting here laughing cos I'm thinking. Man, it IS bad, but I don't remember it being THAT bad. lol

Seriously, it's not good at the best of times, but I think something's wrong there. :)

What are you specs?

Here's a link to some standard shots, you can increase the in game res if you search for the 4K/8K tweak. I've visited Earth in ED on many occasions, it looks nothing like your pic, I wouldn't except a shot like that unless I ran a crappy GPU.

That is a pretty fuzzy pic there Commander. Quite odd I must say.

I recently took this shot of North America and it doesn't look like that.

My in game settings are on Ultra (on my laptop right now so I don't have access to specifics at the moment).

GPU Radeon RX 480 8GB
CPU i5 Core
RAM 16GB

Just took this on the PS4 Pro:

... whut? I mean ... WHUT?? Seriously?? Are you g kidding me???? That's a joke, someone's sick joke, right?

1G VRAM, 8G RAM. The ship, the clouds, Gorbachev station and procedural ELWs are all high res, it's just the Earth texture that's like this.

Same specs as my machine, and it's below the minimum requirements. I don't remember Earth being that bad, but it does vary over time; the game does seem to leak some over time and you'll find textures which are higher resolution earlier in a play session are lower later on.

Either that, or it's the coral reefs dying. It really makes the edges of Australia fuzzy.

I saw exactly the same a short time back in Sol. For me it changed textures though, from the sharp detailed image and then pops back into blurry mode as I change altitude flying around. Made it 'fun' to get a decent screenshot lol. Running game on 780ti 3Gb, frames solid on 60 but still the popping. Saying that, overall I had very few graphical glitches in Sol. Didn't see too much of the texture stretching, detail remained high, lighting looked right except when entering deep craters on one of the moons where it kinda jumps from one lighting setting to another at a certain depth.

I'm too far away for Earth to look like anything more than . at the moment, but I'll look next time I'm through there, but as I recall it did look Mostly Harmless to me.

Out if interest what time of day in the Elite clock is Europe in the light of Sol? It seemed to have a different rotation.

That's what it looks like for me on PS4 Pro... regardless of whether Boost Mode is enabled, before anyone asks.

Sometimes, the higher res textures do appear... but then they just as easily switch of again as you get closer.

The time clock in Elite Dangerous corresponds to actual UTC (GMT), but the planets' orbits/rotations in Sol are not synchronised with this.[/B]

There's got to be something on Earth, unless you're saying all the cities just lifted up into the atmosphere :p

Only just found this thread since its now 3 months old but I can answer that one. No they did quite the opposite and disappeared into the ground...

http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Earth

6th mass extinction, energy crisis and nuclear war.

Following that most of Earth became a tourist hot spot left for the remaining wildlife to regrow etc with humanity down to a few cities as many of the survivors evacuated to the new colonies on Mars which was being terraformed and wasn't radioactive :)
Hence Mars is the current capital of the Federation not Earth as many believe.

As for the topic in question I have no idea but on PC its tons better and if it doesn't quite do it you can even up to 8k or 16k graphics in the .ini text file.
