Earth TV and radio broadcasts

This is currently how far out our transmissions have reached, would be pretty cool in game to catch random snatches of things over the radio if you tuned in to the right frequencies.

if the truth be known our earthly broadcasts get spread so thinly on its journey into the cosmos that it just ends up being drowned out by the universes background radiation.

Unless you are from a sophisticated scientific race that has receiving equipment that can separate the signal from the background noise of course.

If they are out there, and IF they have the right equipment and IF they are listening.

At the risk of being pedantic - aren't lasers just another frequency of electromagnetic radio wave?

not saying you can't do it with lasers i just assume its more complicated?

Yes, they are. I was trying to make a joke in that we wouldn't talk in order to communicate, just shoot each other even though lasers can be used as a communication medium - I obviously wasn't good enough at communicating this in which case just shoot me (NB : that last bit was a joke as well).
