EA's Origin Access. Is It Worth It?

Hello CMDRs!

In my never ending search for cheaper forms of entertainment, I've sunken as low as looking to EA. Lol
(Just nabbed a free copy of Dead Space off them!)

Origin Access is a subscription service, like Netflix, for £3.99 a month (works out to £47.88/year) or just £19.99 a year as a one off payment, you get access to 75~ games, many of them old, but also includes new ones, like Battlefield 1, Starwars, Mass Effect Andromeda, etc.

So for the price of 1 premium EA game per year (if paid monthly), you get access to around 10 of them...? (Plus a load of old games, including dungeon keeper 2!)

This seems too good to be true. Especially coming from EA. Lol

Does anyone have this? I have questions..!

Do you actually get the premium (access to DLC) version of the game, like it advertises? Or just the basic version?
How would DLC work?

Or is EA using the cut price subscription service, then hoping for micro-transactions on top?

I'm almost tempted, but I can't really do anything until my internet is sorted. EA games are notoriously large. And my internet is epicly slow. Lol

Thoughts?

I have Origin Access - on the monthly subscription.

To answer your questions about EA Vault games - you get only whatever is there, you cannot get a free vault game and then buy the DLC on top, though some vault games are the "complete" package and include all DLC - read the specs carefully.
In addition to vault games, you also get 10% discount on any Origin purchase.

I've had it for over a year now, and I will probably switch to the cheaper yearly subscription. I've played games from the vault I would never had purchased and had fun playing them (FIFA17 is one example). Personally, I think it's value for money.
For the cautious (which I recommend), I'd try it on monthly subscription for a few months to see how it goes - you can cancel at any time (but you will lose access to vault games). To get the best value, wait until there is a new EA game that you actually want to buy, then get a month's access for £4, and get that back with the 10% discount on the new game.

Sounds like a generally good deal to me. Especially if you haven't played many of the games they offer already.

Yes... is the quick answer. Over 70 top title games in the vault, 10% off EA game purchases, early access, all for £20 or $20 per year...

Battlefield one or the entire Mass effect series including Andromeda, all limited editions with DLC, all free... are worth that price alone [yesnod]

It does look quite reasonable, might be a good way to play ME: andromeda without actually buying it, and the wing commander games are on there for those of who believe Star Citizen wont be finished until it looks as dated as Wing Commander is now :D

I bought ME Andromeda via Steam as a pre-order before release...just the basic vanilla version. Through Origin access, I now have all the DLC and season pass...all for nowt extra [yesnod]

I'm sure there are plenty of open source games to keep you entertained . Or explore some retro games.

Can't comment on Origin as I don't use it I'm afraid. Regarding cheap forms of entertainment though, I can't recommend enough https://www.reddit.com/r/GameDeals/ which will let you know about the 3489262 free/cheap games on offer all the time, as well as the https://www.humblebundle.com/monthly subscription which costs about $12 a month and gives you a big headline title as well as a series of surprise games each month. This month for example, you get Dark Souls 3 for the headline. You can see on the site what the previous monthly bundles have provided. It's more expensive than the Origin sub, but everything you get, you keep even after unsubbing.
