I always liked the Vanilla option idea. Just another button on the start screen and one more option for players.
Not everyone gives a crap about engineering. Let's see how "gud" people really are..

Congratulations, there's already a vanilla battleground button, it's labelled CQC.

Take away the ability to engineer the FSD? Good luck getting anyone to play that mode, and the ones that would, already are in CQC, or one of the PG's that caters to unengineered combat.
The game is already segmented enough.

Remove shield boosters and only allow HRP / MRPs / SCBs to be installed in military slots, and I'd be very tempted to play this mode. It'll never happen, however - it's a pie in the sky dream.

As a console player who never experienced the pre-engineering days, the game would not have sustained my interest beyond the "A decent space sim on console!" honeymoon period if I had to spend nearly half my play time travelling to whatever location interested me. Even now with FSD boosters, I hate trading cause its just jumping, jumping, jumping, bookended with some docking/undocking, and the occasional npc interdiction to avoid thrown in amungst the jumping.

I love that people pretend there wasn't anything like a metagame before engineers came along. It's pure nonsense.

I feel like people would be dying to ganks just the same as they are now lol. The engineering gap wouldn’t be there, but they’d be flying especially crappy ships, and still doing so poorly.

On the other hand, PVP fights might take less than 20-30 minutes though, without the crazy defense stats these days.

Ask anyone who has been around before engineering, would be exactly the same as now as far as ganking. At least I have a fighting chance to escape in a freighter with engineering. G5 LR sensors alone was a godsend.

I'd rather they get rid of guardian and engineers and instead make the game mechanics you use more fun so you don't need modifications that circumvent them.

Travel is broken when you have multiple in game add-ons to skip most of it.

Agreed. There would be a potential issue with engineered power plants, not a difficult one to solve though I think.
