ED Astrometrics: Maps and Visualizations

What's funny is that I've owned every ship in the game at least once, but some still don't appear in my jump history at all, because all I did was toy with them around shindez. At least I flew that one somewhere. :D

Another small update-- The travel history video creator will now also generate a small CSV spreadsheet of your jump stats, broken out by ship type.

Hm, where is the download link for that CSV? I don't see it anywhere.
edit : ah disregard, I confused it with the Travel Route generator on the Interactive Map ;)

edit 2 : Video Creator can't handle all my Journals, Gateway timeout during upload :D
I wonder if this could be added as a feature to the Interactive Map Journal processing for the sake of getting the CSV without having to create such huge upload and processing load for a Video?

Yeah, it's not set up as a stand-alone feature, but rather some additional info when creating a video/map project. Upload timeout? Ouch. It handles all of my journals just fine (over 3100 files). It could have been a transient network glitch or something. It's also possible that it just took too long, depending on where in the world you are and how fast the connecting points are between you and the server. You can always try again later, and see if gets different results. ;)

But yeah, if this is something that is interesting enough, I could probably make a stand-alone tool, or bolt it onto the interactive map. Stand-alone might make more sense, rather than find a way to stick it into the map UI. The good news is that this wouldn't need to upload anything to the server, since it's just extracting information from your journals.

At the moment, the various journal scanners on the website each have their own copy of the code, since they do slightly different things. I'm wondering if I can unify that too. I'll look it over and see what ideas I can come up with.

Thinking about it....

If the Browser frontend was able to able to process the Journals, I could imagine some nifty Journal-based Filters to show on the Interactive Map :
  • show me all Earth-like worlds I found
  • show me all ringed Earth-like worlds I found
  • show me all {insert favorite Journal-readable Object} I found

Since the Route Travel History on the interactive Map is superb and very fast, this might be a really cool addition.
AFAIK no other Tool can do that (mark all spots on a nice, interactive Map where it marks your finds).

A bit like Elite Observatory but put on the ED Astro Interactive Map at least for the most commonly sought Journal Objects.
(could also be specifically used to not only display discovered Biologicals [Horizons + new Odyssey], but at the same time might this processing be able to easily feed the ED Astro Server with yet-unreported Biological location Data as a bonus? Thinking about ED Astro users who might not have been API or EDSM users, but anyone could feed the Data into ED Astro Database that way)

Anyway, I'd love to see all my ELWs or my discovered Biologicals on the Interactive map if that's possible without too much processing.
In the past, I used Bookmarks to have the Galaxy Map show me such an image - but of course I eventually ran out of Bookmarks in-game.

OK yeah, that gives me some things to think about. I can probably add some checkboxes with options for common journal events that can be pinned (ELWs, etc).

I didn't mention it here yet, but I did also just add an event uploader to the site:

https://edastro.com/journals/

Hm, just tried that but after processing any Journal I only get :
message "Invalid JSON"
status 500

Can confirm.
First this:

And after it's done:

JSON:
{
"message": "Invalid JSON",
"status": 500
}

OK, I found exactly what I broke, and it was definitely part of that code merge I did right around the time that I posted about its existence... LOL.

You may have to clear your cache, or shift-reload to get it to work. The bug fix is in the associated JS file.

OK, I'm considering this to be in an alpha/beta (or whatever) test state, but it's looking pretty functional so far....

I have a first pass on automatically plotting markers for things on the player-path import on the interactive map:

https://edastro.com/galmap/

I want to add the ship report too, but I'll get to that later. Right now I have a greyed out checkbox for that, but no code to back it up yet. Right now there are selections for ELWs, NSPs, and Organics (which includes space and ground, since it's a lot easier than trying to split them up). Also a "clear" button for clearing the path, if you do more than one import. It doesn't clear the markers though. I might add something for that later.

I've added the ship report to the path importer on the interactive map. I'm still considering it a "beta". Let me know if it's horribly broken. :D

Test run, from the new ship tracker. My journals, 2017 to present:

There appears to be a bug that's making the ship report not always appear. I'm investigating.

EDIT: I have it resolved.
