ED Commander names

Who's having difficulty thinking up their commander name?

I've always been Bikky or B!kky in games (from chocky bikky, cos surnames cook and bikky is a cookie and stuff)

But how to tie that into a name?

What's other peoples thoughts been? or post ideas you've had if you don't want to risk someone nicking your planned name.

It's really difficult isn't it? Even thinking up a username for this forum had me scratching my head! I was thinking of maybe using some variation of my real name, or maybe a character from a book or film I like. Or maybe a place name from around where I live so if I meet anyone in-game from nearby they'll realise.

Laton was a character from Peter F Hamilton's Night's Dawn trilogy (as I'm sure many of you will know). He was a starship captain of sorts, at least, his group had a starship and he was their leader.

I also thought about being Captain Venkman as a nod to one of the greatest films ever made

I wonder if some very famous names will be banned in case of copyright infringement? Mal Reynolds, Lando Calrissian etc

At the moment I like the sound of Venkman but in another year I'm positive I'll have changed my mind!

I'm always Kipper or Kip wherever possible. When it's not, I look for inspiration to movies or books that might be appropriate.

In Ultima online, my character was called "Dervel Cadarn" which is from some books I read, can't remember if it was the Winter King chronicles or something else.

First 2 are nicknames I am known by. Last is my surname. Guess my real first name.

I'm not sure at all.

If it was some kind of homage to a character, maybe Commander Bisley, or even Steiner-Bisley.

Or I could be something completely separate like Mountjoy Bootstrap, Kurt Muscle, or Cleetus Einstein

Michael has confirmed on the KS comments that we can name our ships too. To be honest I was going to name mine anyway and just stick a post-it on my laptop. Now I have to think of some more good names!. But not waste my best name on my Eagle Long Range Fighter.

Hmm, I thought with the Jamesons that it was going to be forename and surname....

Commander Forename Surname... that has a ring to it

In that case if its singular I'll go with Commandr B!kky or Bikky... hehe, I could have my primary school nicknames sake of Cookie Monster, or when slightly older that got changed to Chokky Bikky...

makes me sound like a right bloater but i'm only a 34 waist, and am over 6ft tall before anyone says i'm 4ft tall.

or commander hawk eye... or due to age and failing eyesight commander blind hawkeye or hawk eyeless

Do we think that means that you automatically start with the title Captain but you earn the title Commander somehow? Perhaps by achieving Elite status?

Or does it mean only backers who have reserved a commander name are commanders?

I shall be giving all my ship's Irish language names from mythology. Something beautiful to consider as I take the liberty to scan your cargo hold

As an aside, anyone know when in January we will get to give names to Frontier?

Just whatever comes to mind really, and whatever sounds just a bit silly. Because when a trader is screaming my name in chat in a furious rage, I want him to smile a bit while doing it.

I'll probably re-use my Fallout 3 character's name - Jack Anderson. It's a name I like and Anderson's not a million miles from my RL surname. In fact, one of my ancestors used it as an alias.

I'm pretty sure I'll use my RL name.

As for my ship name, they will all be in Manx - my starter will be 'Ben-my-Chree' or 'Girl of my heart' ( it's been the name of several Manx ships ).
