FD should just publish the API and let android devs have at it. FD have enough on their plate without hiring people to write the apps - there are loads of people who will do that for free.

There is a thread open right now where FD are asking for users' requirements for the public API.

They are working on an API and have already said that until that is sorted they are not going to bother with the Android or Windows app.

Planned..yes, but not until they have sorted out the Apple one. Once that is running as intended they will launch the Android. Watch this space, could be a while.

Hang on, hasn't there has been an Apple app for ages? Surely its about time for the biggest app market (Android) to get an official app?

It doesn't do much.

Tells you where you are, what you have, local market, and not much more....

I just opened the app for kicks, pretty much every page has "text to be replaced" all over it, which is actually quite a few steps back form the last time I looked at it.

Edit - seems to be working again.

The one thing it *could* be useful for, is getting market data info recognised by an OCR app that then uses it for Trade Dangerous, or some other community sourced trade info database.

Elite: Dangerous Android App

Hello,

when will the official Android App of Elite Dangerous be released?

Greetings

Some time after they actually find a real purpose for it. I wouldn't expect it (or even bother downloading it) till FDev release an API so the game can send data to the ap. (and even then I'll probably get a better designed third party one instead).

The app on IOS is completely useless. I doubt anyone actually uses it; no reason to have it ported to android at this point.

Yup, just echoing this...

A while ago, one of the Frontier folks (probably MB) mentioned that mobile development is on hold until they flesh out the API further. I think the thread on taking API suggestions is now closed, so we should be seeing something about it at some point....hopefully soon.

FD: Any news on the IOS (or Android) compnion app?

As it says above. I've got the app on my phone and every now and then I look at it, get frustrated that it doesn't remember my login credentials and then start thinking how good it could be if it was developed.

So, is it going to be developed any further? Will we see an Android version?

I would love to see some kind of Ship configuration sandbox in it. Testing different setups and so on.

As it is now, the app is quite useless. I can check my credit balance and local station commodities but with not interaction to it.

Last news was that they halted companion app development till they have clear picture what kind of API they will offer to people so they don't waste resources.
