Community Event / Creation ED game models for 3D printer.

I'd really like some of the 3d models to be able to import them into space engineers, as you can do that with most of the eve models, then strap engines on it and make it functional.

I could probably model up a version of the Cobra fairly easily.

Anyone willing to print me a copy if I supply the model data? :p

Has anyone any suggestions on a good 3d printer to go for. I liked the look of the M3D but it looks like delivery starts next year. Something preferably in the UK, you don't need to sell a kidney to buy it and is well supported. So far I have read a bit about the Velleman K8200 and the Omerod RepRap Pro.

I have and Up!Plus which is sold in the US under the name Afinia. Can print ABS and PLA. Printed with both materials. It is fairly unknown but got best grades at the Makezine. I'm very happy with my printer. Just depends on the size you need. Ultimakers are also pretty good but are mostly for PLA and have to be assembled.
check also for other printers here:

Here you find stuff, which I printed

It does look an interesting printer but a bit pricey at £1250 from Maplin. Seems to be the going rate also and it's a mk2 version. I am sure the prices are going to plummet soon when they become more popular. Same thing happened with other new tech. I was hoping to dabble at it for around £500.

a site to watch, they maintain a price list of kits and finished.

I suggest you buy a finished machine and not a kit, its not worth the frustration, even if you are a capable technician. Maybe build the second one.

and some other useful 3d priting related sites that I watch all the time:

Find your local 'maker' / 'garage' / 'builder' / 'hackspace' .. if there is anyone you will find with advice, suggestions, or actually selling them, these folk can help.

I expect the nomenclature to be the same.

failing that, the england staples has a printing service, and Mcor is from there to.
You can always send it off to shapeways, and have it made.

I expect getting real ship scans in elite is going to take 4k grabs and 2 accounts.

And dedication, as it wont work on the first try, it never does.

is anyone willing to try? I will do the work. I need subjects.

Hi,

in SC the 3D-models are easy to get. The format is "open" and there are many tools to transform these to the printable fileformats.

In ED the 3D-models are "closed", they are proprietary and not documented.
Also the container-format is unknown and reverse-engeniering is prohibited by the EULA.

This is the main problem to easy build 3d-prints.

Does anyone know what Frontier's opinion is on custom 3D models built from scratch and 3D printed for personal use only?

It's always been a grey area...

This will enter the same problem that i have! I ask Kerrash to look forward to Frontier if by any chance i can have the ships model to create all in papercraft!

I guess you'll receive a similar answer:
I will ask, but this may be difficult due to legal reasons.

For example the Cobra wire frame is still jointly owned by Ian Bell, so Frontier cannot provide it to you.

Só... the way if model your own 3D in Maya, Blender or 3D Studio Max. ;)

Im very interested on this thread, any update from Frontier? :)

This isn't quite the same but I've made a papercraft of the Cobra and Sidewinder and I've uploaded the Cobra source files that I created to make the papercraft.

Here is the thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=111198&highlight=

There are links to the papercraft and to the source files in the first post. If you look on the 4th page of the forum a fellow named Corwyn has taken the base model and is working on a more detailed version... possibly to 3d print one.

Looking forward to see others :D
