ED Odyssey -dx12 -> -dx11

When you right click onto the Launcher alias choosing the settings you may notice the path like this: C:\username\EDLaunch\EDLaunch.exe -dx12. I changed the end of the line to -dx11 and since then it runs noticeably smoother. The issues on my end were a choppy/stutter play even if I had a constant 60 fps.
On ground odyssey stuff ? Like settlement ? And CZ ?

Lolwhat. The game only uses DX11, no support of DX12, so far at least.

I checked my setup on Steam and it did not include either the -dx12 or -dx11 modifier by default.

I added -dx11 to test it and it made absolutely no difference to my frame rates whatsoever.

I have read that years ago Frontier offered two different versions of the EDLauncher, one for dx11 and one for dx12. For couriosity that was back in 2015 maybe. Also to mention that I still use ED with no Steam. Not sure if this makes any difference here.

I don't remember this, I do remember 2 versions of the same game existing a few years back though (the switch from 32bit to 64bit, and as a result the dropping of support for OSX).

As far as I know ED is also a DX11 game, it definitely was a few years back.

mh yes you are right. I also remember that elite dangerous was always dx11. I have no idea what happened here. :)

^ This ,
@Imo you've probably got various things firing off when you're gaming if you've not tuned Win10

WinDef scans
Services automations etc

On this occasion they may not have automated and the placebo affect of adding the appendage at the end would seem to make a difference

To be fair, "tuning" that steaming mess of an OS is more frustrating than just accepting the god awful performance in Odyssey :]

I have the absolute bare minimum services running in my virtual machine, and it still performs better running in Linux through a compatibility layer lmao...

The only launcher switch I know is /edh which used to replace the choice of vanilla, training etc with just the play button for Horizons. It still hides the other stuff but now I see both Horizons and Odyssey choices. I've tried /edo, doesn't work :(

Linux users had noticed and complained that /edo vs / edh doesn't actually work, it seems to always run Odyssey regardless. ( the /edh used to launch Horizons and without it you got the base game I believe ) this is using the much easier and less annoying, open source launcher instead of the official stupid .NET one that FDev made to run the game.

This is an issue I hadn't brought up since the game doesn't officially support Linux. I ended up making different entries in Lutris for Odyssey and Horizons.
