ED unplayable after update?

soon after update, as I entered the galaxy map, things started to slow down ... dramatically. Like, hit the galaxy map button, get up, walk around, come back, and it's still spinning. I did a graceful reset, logged back in, and nothing. NAda. I try to start the game, and it just completely freezes.
Anyone else having issues? Other than a uninstall/reinstall, I'm stumped.
HArdware is not the issue -- I'm running a 5960x/16gig ddr4/3x NVidia 980GTX(all in crossfire), and my internet connection is 100gb/75gb (getting fairly close to that with independent testing).

so... any thoughts?

Not had that issue, before uninstalling have you tried 'Validate game files' from the options in the launcher (only shows when you are logged in).

where is the game file even installed?
I have a feeling it somehow is using some funky graphics settings. I "uninstalled," but onlt the "launcher" uninstalles. The only entry in the registry is a one line with a cpu id ...
Any thoughts?

I have a similar issue. the game runs for a short time, crashes, restart, runs, crashes <repeat> Giving up for a while.

Some would say yes. :)

Hope you get it working.

MOST would say yes.

I too hope you get it working, that sucks. Probably going to have to reinstall, I dunno what else to try since Validate files didn't work. Do other games still run for you?

It installs (by default) in Program files\Frontier Developments and then the actual games files are in a folder like FDEV-0100-#### (I am at work so am guessing on the numbers parts...but it's something like that.

There are also settings files in Users\Username\Appdata\Frontier Development

thanks guys --- all helpful, nothing worked. I've got it working again by dropping the resolution down .. I was running in NVidia surround on three monitors at 6066x1200 resolution (and it worked fine).
Post update, even with resolution knocked down to single monitor, I can't run in full screen, (surround totally doesn't work), AND, bringing up the galaxy map takes 7 seconds (timed it-- this is by far the most annoying thing.).
This game works 1000x better on my four year old laptop with a NVidia 4200m card-- takes only a few seconds to open the galaxy map.
I'm about ready to cash in on this game if this doesn't improve.

This is what I've tried, I'm all ears if anyone has any other thoughts:
1) uninstalled the game. This, unfortunetly, only uninstalls the launcher. Not the actual game. I have yet to find where the game is actually kept.
2) delted the ~program files (x86)\frontier director, as well as any reference to frontier in the registry. When I reinstall, it remembers my login, and no issues resolved. So, I'm assuming I still haven't figured out how to uninstall the game
3) tried rebotting
4) upgraded to the latest NVidia driver
5) downgraded to the latest NVidia RELEASE driver.
6) tried NVidia optimize.

For the record, again, I'm running an 8-core x5960 chip, 16 gig ddr4, and 3x NVidia 980GTX in sli, so my rig is massive overkill for this game.

Delete the %localappdata%\Frontier Developments folder to nuke your graphics settings.
NOTE: It may be a good idea to back up your custom.binds file first - Stored in %localappdata%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings

The game files are in %localappdata%\Frontier_Developments (note the underscore instead of space)

thanks, through randomness I figured it out.
Nvidia optimize used custom settings, and put everything on "ultra." On a whim I selected "ultra" settings, which dropped shadows down to "medium". EVERYTHING is snappy now, and it runs in surround across three monitors. Go figure.

At least NVIDIA can optimize your experience as well as they can optimize available VRAM... *wicked grin*

(for the record before this devolves into a Red vs Green thing, I roll with a GTX 580, and have had no problems with it)

ha!
no idea why making shadows "ultra" would kill everything -- including anything else on my computer running at the same time ..

There's a new "shadow light" in the game engine. It's in the patch notes. Perhaps you should ticket a bug just in case. I run shadows on the highets settings across 3 spanned monitors on a single 970 and it works fine.

yeah , doesn't really make sense, but SLI sometimes does weird things to games that are not optimized for it.. I've seen instances in mwo where my 3x980 setup worked fine, and a dual 970 would barely run (and mwo really is a processor bound game, a single 970 is overkill for that game).
