ED vs PvP

I can see the devs giving in on this one and making a 4th mode for PVP combat which will consist of a couple of planets and lots of combat zones. It wouldn't be hard to do and would please those that want it.

Hey it wouldn't bother me I will be in the standard open play trading my ass off and exploring the universe ;-)

You mean a one System universe called arena? :D

To crosspost once more: I think I've found an elegant solution to the perceived "unfairness" of being able to switch game modes... simply have a visible flag on a player that states "This player's never left MP", so it becomes a prestige thing for players who care about these kind of things to hold.

wouldnt it be easier if the Development team just took all the weapons out of the game

That way everyone could fly around for hours at a time and just be nice to each other .... well apart from the Pirates, who would need to ask nicely that you give up your cargo .... and because this is Elite : Ethical .... when you drop your cargo, dont forget to also drop a P760 Manifest form, so the Pirates can pay any tax to the Ethical Pirate Union and can invoice you back so you can claim insurance

i wish it was like that in real life , last time i was robbed tey kicked me half dead and took me wallet and rings. tey dint ask me nice dammit :S

Getting shot up near the station whilst flying a Lakon is as lame as it gets and thankfully avoided 3 separate attacks last night.
Having said that I have noticed it happens to me at a similar time of day (wee hours of the morning for me), time zone related perhaps ;)

You can try and pretend the game is whatever you think it is, but you won't change the fact that it's not. It's what players are going to make of it.

With the core gameplay - the trading - being so boring, and the "PVP" areas being absolutely barren of players, what you're going to get are people "griefing" other players at the stations, because it's the only really entertaining thing TO do.

Basically for a lot of the people here who can't handle being shot at: You need to either petition Frontier to make this game more carebear friendly than it already is, or just stick to singleplayer like you seem to want.

To be quite honest, for a game titled Elite: Dangerous, I really find it ironic how little this community is able to tolerate actual adversity, and how much the developers have so far catered to that.

And yet in a relatively tiny area of space with no professions implemented yet that isn't what we are seeing. We did in Premium Beta because it was even smaller and there were no consequences. So it would seem the consequences are the difference.

Shouldn't it be "ED v PvP" or "ED vs P vs P"?

If the versus is abbreviated as v in PvP then it should also be abbreviated v in the title, and if it's vs in the title it should be vs in P vs P too. Consistency, man!

I'll get me coat.

Please please please explain this simple concept to those who thing ED is a PVP shoot-em-up.

Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

This isn't what players want.

What they want is to shoot you while you try and explore the universe and trade. Because it's fun. It's fun shooting you, and it's fun watching you cry on the forums about being shot.

An 'arena server' isn't what they're after. Pubbie tears are what they're after.

Don't want to give it to them? Get a thicker skin and live with being shot at once in a while, and do some shooting of your own. Still can't handle that? Play singleplayer mode and avoid all the players you already want to avoid anyways.

I don't understand this mindset some of you have that this game needs to be safe and fluffy and coddle you so you can prance around the universe smelling daisies and being pacifists. Why the hell are you playing a game called Elite: Dangerous when you really want Ordinary: Unhazardous?

Well yes of course, but in a way that is more ED and it is what they want. Why should the Devs not give it to them. That way we all have the modes of play we want from the game.

I.E. Everyone playing how they want, the ED way ..... at least i thought that was the ED way.

No you will kill people and than go into solo to hide :) simple

Hide from what? Hide from the Trader you blew up?

They are likely not a PvP'er and will not be bothered about chasing you for vengence.

You think you're going to hide from the Police and bounty hunters in Solo?

To all the whingers:

FD have created a brilliant structure for multiplayer with all the options necessary for everyone to enjoy their own style of game. Furthermore, this structure was decided long ago by far more mature and reasoned individuals than are currently posting all this rubbish on the forums. Short of major unforseen issues, it isn't going to change!

Get a frakkin grip, stop whinging about it, and RTFDDF! (Read the Frakkin Design Discusion Forum)

Try reading my initial post fully.

Nothing said about a carebear galaxy, just not a galaxy of mindless serial killers, they will be policing put in place, everybody who is getting their kicks with mindless no motive PvP, are going to be in for a rude awakening. Personally, I can't see why FD don't create PVP areas to appease all.

With pirating, bounty hunting & assassination, I think Elite will be pretty Dangerous, but you misunderstand the reason behind the title, ED is called such because it will be possible to do Elite level jobs at the ranking of Dangerous, as long as someone who is Elite vouches for you.

The only way the anti-PvP brigade will be happy, is if a PvP-disabled online mode is introduced.

Completely remove physical interactions between player, no collisions, no weapon hits. You can see other players and wave at them, but they are effectively a ghost as far as other players are concerned.

Then leave the current Online mode to people that want to interact with other players beyond having a cup of tea in the station cafe.

It just needs separation. Nothing else. And right now everyone can follow his prefered play style. Simple, no?

Mode warping should not be allowed in the final game, I hope that the commander you create are a SP or MP commander and he/she cannot be transferred to the other mode.

The Ironman mode sound really fun, however I do not see the advantage or benefit compared to MP only.

A PC blew me up on Friday as I was entering a space station. It totally caught me by surprise, mainly because it was my first real "interaction" with a PC.

But it didn't really bother me because (a) I was in a heavily damaged, no frills sidewinder with no cargo on board (if anything they saved me some money!); and (b) I know that it won't be so easy to grief like this when we have the police/authorities properly implemented.

Although, now I'm a bit more on guard when I see PCs loitering around space stations :)

There's enough scope in the game for someone who wants a shooter experience to play that way by doing bounty hunter, military or mercenary missions. The missions may even pit you against other players, so you'll get your PvP fix that way.

Some people will want to play as pirates, which is cool, the game is designed to be played that way, and if you're doing it with the aim being to hijack trading ships to get cargo and sell it, then fine. But if people are just using piracy as an excuse to camp outside space stations and snipe unsuspecting players (like someone was doing last night), without getting into the the true "spirit" of the game, then we've got a problem.

Perhaps a way to combat it is if player A attacks player B for his cargo, and player B drops his cargo but player A keeps on shooting and kills him (and player B doesn't have a wanted level), then player A should be mercilessly hunted down by other players playing as bounty hunters, mercs (and AI authorities) and when killed should be put into the poorest ship with 100 credits and no weapons as punishment. ;)
