ED Wont load in VR HMD

Thanks Eliza , fly safe CMDR o7 :)

I ended up trying a fresh install last on Steam. Again, let it download overnight while in bed. Tried it this morning, didnt want to load up in the HMD. So, i think Steam have broken SteamVR with this new look they unleashed on us. Or something just broke in Steam on me alone and i have to do a reinstall of steam which i am reluctant to do because the last time i did that, steam didnt find all my games and i had to reinstall them because finding them for steam wasnt good enough lol.
So, for now, im just gonna use Oculus. MAYBE, oneday, when i can be bothered, i might try a reinstall of steam.

With a bit of help from FD, i tried a few other things, like doing a fresh install of Steam VR, that failed.
So, instead of doing a fresh install of Steam, where i uninstalled the current Steam app, and reinstalled it, i opted for a test run of doing a install of Steam onto another drive that didnt have Steam on it. And then downloaded and installed ED into that version of Steam. All this while leaving my old Steam still installed on my G drive with all my games still installed as well.
Turns out, Steam did break something on me or they broke Steam VR on me to the point i needed to do a whole new install of Steam.
This issue only begun when Steam released their new look version of Steam.
For now though, im leaving the fresh install on my C drive for a few weeks or so to see if Steam gives me any other dramas.
Stupid thing was, i could play other Steam VR games, just not Elite Dangerous, go figure...:ROFLMAO:

So i contacted Steam support about this, and im waiting for a reply from them. Being Christamas holidays probably wont be til new years i hear back from them.
Anyway, i backed everything up and did a reinstall of Steam, and Elite Dangerous. Worked fine.....UP UNTIL i started adding game library's and games back to Steam that ED failed on me again. So valve have broken something to where i can not play ED in VR if i have other games installed on Steam. But works perfectly fine in VR if its the only game in the library.
I thought i would put this out there in case anyone else has this issue. I hope not, coz its been a nightmare for me to figure out that its steam at fault.
So til Steam get their act together and fix their stuff up, i am stuck with 2 installs of Steam. 1 for all my other games, and one for ED only. What a joke! :ROFLMAO:

Got several replies back from Steam Support about this ongoing issue over the last week or so.
Tried uninstalling every SteamVR version i installed on my pc because of this issue proppin up, then going through deleting the SteamVR folders to make sure Steam had a clean install of VR.
So, that involved uninstalling Steam VR from both my G and C drives, then going through every library i had, which for me, was on C, E, F and G drives.
reinstalled Steam VR on G drive and ran Elite to test.....Failed.
Then they replied back last night, asking me to uninstall Razer Cortex and Synapse as Razer tends to break stuff apparently. But also to check what running background processes i have or to even try a clean boot.
So, i went ahead and uninstalled Razer Cortex because i dont use it anyway. Synapse, i thought, mmmm, i didnt want to uninstall it because i do use it for the keyboard and mouse color schemes. So, i just killed the process instead, ran elite.....Failed...
So i went through task manager finding any process i could kill off, i found several. But the one that stood out, was my VPN, PIA. (Private Internet Access). I have been using my VPN for years now and its like 2nd nature. So when something goes wrong, i forget that this could be contributing to a problem.
So, anyway, i thought it was a long shot, but tried it anyway, and killed the process, and ran ED in SteamVR again.....

Anyway, before i get banned from mucking around in the forums lol....(Sorry mods, i couldnt help myself :)...), ED finally loaded up in the HMD.
I was taken aback abit by this and just sat there looking into my headset as the game was loading up. When it got to the game menu. I sat there for another minute then exited the game. Re-launched my VPN, and then the game, game failed to load. I then exited the game and the VPN and reloaded game...it loaded.
I done this several more times because i needed to be sure this was the issue. If you read my earlier posts, you will see after loading once, game worked then wouldnt load 2nd or 3rd tries. This is why i kept trying, to be sure it was going to work and that i found the problem.
I then exited everything, restarted the pc to give it a clean slate. Loaded Steam, SteamVR, Oculus, and then ED. It worked. Again, exited ED, loaded VPN, reloaded ED, it failed.

Why i kep thinking Steam had broken something though earlier in this thread, was because of when they launched their "New Look" version of Steam, ED stopped working in the HMD. So, whatever they added to Steam, my VPN is blocking it for some reason, maybe thinking its a virus or something, and its clashing with my VPN.
There was a time i used to play without using my VPN, but as time went on from using it, i eventually forgot to turn it off before loading games up and its now lead to this. Thinking my older age might have something to do with this too lol. So this is has just reminded me to turn it off again before gaming.
But, at least, if someone else out there who plays ED and who uses VPN's, and they forget to turn the VPN off, and then have this issue, at least there will be answer to the problem now :)
And yes, i do feel silly for forgetting my vpn was running lol...Im only human, we all make mistakes :)
