Forgive me if this has been answered. How do i go about getting EDDI to read the Galnet article after it reads the headline? I am very new to all this and i am very lost.

A number of voices are not supportable in EDDI due to their lack of phonetic speech or the fact that some langauges are 64-bit only and EDDI runs in 32-bit mode.

oooh stupid me, that's why. I'll try to install the 32 bit windows engine and related tts voices, thank you.

@Mr. Beta: no idea for now, I'll post ere a solution eventually

There are two options. You could use VoiceAttack, in which case there is a video available at the end of the first post in this thread that shows how to trigger a command when an event occurs.

If that isn't enough for you then there is the ability to write your own responder. This does require you to have knowledge of C# coding, however if you do then the interface itself is very simple. The speech responder is as easy to understand as anything, and the source code is available to view at https://github.com/cmdrmcdonald/EliteDangerousDataProvider/blob/master/SpeechResponder/SpeechResponder.cs

Alrighty, sounds Ike an opportunity to dive headfirst into the (potentially empty) pool of C#!
Voice attack is an attractive option to a quicker solution, but I have no use for its primary feature (voice recognition commands), so it feels like a bit of a waste to buy it.
While writing my own responder sounds a bit daunting, I could cheat a bit by having it trigger a preexisting batch file to echo the command down the serial pipe instead.
If I'm anything near successful, I'll report back on the result and offer up what is sure to be n00b-tainted but operational code. :D

Thanks very much for the pointers!

If I use voiceattack, do the preprogrammed voice responses for events still happen if I DO NOT create a voice attack responder? For example, I want the steller body scan results to play, but I don't want to create a new event in voice attack.

Speech Responder and Voice Attack Responder are completely separate and operate & are edited independently.

Updated for 2.0.5 and now i dont get any environment change from EDDI or dock or bounty or nothing... All i get is "Not Set" uninterrupted prompts! My voice attack version is 1.5.12.31

I have EDDI working perfect for a couple of days now, but I'm wondering why the "star scanned" (triggered when completing a scan of a stellar body) doesn't work for me. It is enabled in EDDI config. Thanks for making this great addon!

this is weird, when i try playing ED i get nothing from EDDI and when i exit the game it tells me a good item to sell or buy in the current station...

I had a strange issue this evening, EDDI was reading me messages that were not being displayed in the comms screen.

I love EDDI! Can't play the game without it but since the last version "AStra" keep calling my Ship "your Python" instead my ship name which is correctly set on the app, it use to call it by the name not anymore! Any fix for this? Also can EDDI remind me to re stock on limpets when i dock?

I'm by no means an expert, but I just discovered and fixed this myself. In the Shipyard tab, did you enter something for the Name (Spoken) field too? I had my own "duh" moment when I looked there and realized I'd named my ship, but never entered anything for the spoken field as well. Since some names can be difficult for a computer to interpret, he made that field separate from the other in order to include the ability to use phonetic spelling instead (if needed to pronounce the name correctly).

Try the latest version (2.0.5), it fixes some issues where the journal file is not writing out the fields that it should.

Sounds strange. Could you throw me your %APPDATA%\EDDI\eddi.log and I'll take a look? Thanks.

Here's an odd bug as well:

When I added the English-spelled version of my ship's name (Furious) into the "Name (spoken)" field, EDDI started crashing whenever I requested docking permission from any station. Also, I see that field take on a red border, and a tiny red "!" shows up on the left column of that ship's row.

Thinking it was an incomplete feature, I just upgraded to 2.0.5, and the same behaviors are observed in the ship naming portion.

UPDATE:
No, it's not to do with docking requests, that's simply the earliest I was looking at the other monitor and seeing it had crashed (when I didn't hear any responses from it).
Turns out it's crashing when it goes to run the voice script for exiting supercruise. I'm not sure why, as I haven't edited that one at all (though I have edited others that are working just fine).

Not displayed at the time or not displayed at all? EDDI will keep a backlog of things to say, so it might have been running behind a bit.

I've hunted down a bug where some of the ship information goes missing if you relog/mode switch. It'll be fixed for the next release.

Just tried EDDI for the first time. I really like it. One thing though, is that I find the voice a little 'boomy' for want of a better word. I know this isn't the program itself, as it's using Windows 'text to speech'. I've played around with the sliders in EDDI. Anyone know if there's a way to set up the 'text to voice' EQ in Windows?
