EDDiscovery

Have started to acquire the bits for a second PC (ITX) as a backup, & possibly eventual replacement, for my current tower.
Does anyone have any recommendations as to how to keep EDD synchronised between these two machines? I only (currently) have the one FD pilot.

So for now you might log into Elite with either computer? I think Straha had the right idea. Remotely share and map the folder so that EDD only needs to run on one of them.

I would think mapping a drive from the second machine to the primary machine with Elite installed on it, and installing EDD on the second machine, and then pointing to the elite journals on the mapped drive from there

Thanks guys!
I’ve bought a copy of the deluxe edition in today’s sale on a new account. Will load that onto the new machine when I’ve built it, then probably continue to play on the current machine, choosing whichever of the two personae as required, & will probably periodically transfer the latest logfiles across to the backup machine by usb stick. Eventually might go for a nas solution, depending on finance.

I've released 10.3 of EDD, which is a pre-release version for the 3.3 ED Betas.

This is not the finished article, we need more data from frontier - it will be missing ships and any new commodities/materials.

It does handle the new events however.

Why do EDD needs parameters on shortcuts to use options.txt file? Why cant it just check on launch if file exists, and if it exists, then use the settings in options.txt file?

Can I raise a request for a video renamer to complement the screenshot renamer? Same naming & file save, and original deletion options. Just no reformatting needed!

Thats exactly what i am talking about, first bulletpoint - "Any option file included by the -optionfile option given on the command line.".
If i forget to use my special shortcut, and i use direct exe file, or new shortcut after the update, it messes everything -Appfolder related and starts fresh download of everything, except for 2 main DB files.

Excuse my naïveté but can't you just include those options in the "Target" box of the shortcut's properties?

Thats the only way it works. And thats not a good way to make it work. Please re read what my complaints are.

... but updating EDDiscovery doesn't overwrite your shortcut does it?

Which just leaves you with having to remember not to run the exe fine directly or am I missing the plot somewhere?

It creates new ones if there isnt one. And thats the problem - users have to remember to properly launch program. Make it use options.txt file by default. On top of that, i am not only one who cant get options.txt file to work, if you read few pages back. Games and programs have config files for a reason. Why not make it work and use this options.txt file by default?

Just activated my second ED account & got my distant cousin set up in his sidey. Am I correct in thinking that:
EDD automatically detects a new commander?
And keeps his travel data separate so I can track his progress on the map separately from my first pilot?
And does he need a new EDSM account and api key?

So the next time I get on the gaming pc & start up EDD everything will be sweet?

(I did try googling this, and also looking on the EDD help, but it’s Sunday morning & my brain is not working after a disturbed night’s sleep)

NB I am just a user but:

Yes
Yes
Yes if you want to have EDSM account for that commander

Should do

I have multiple commanders and EDDiscovery deals with them just fine.

Yep, new commander should appear in EDD when it sees a log in for a new name in the journals. There's a drop down top left to switch between commanders (in the hidable ribbon, so you might not see it immediately) and on the settings tab you can edit API keys and whatnot for each commander individually.

Edit: and a follow-up question. I’m about to build a second pc & want to copy the data across from my current pc. Is it just the logfiles I need to copy across? Whereabouts are they, in the EDlaunch folder? ( I have ED stored on my E:/ hard drive)

One question regarding beta. I looked into log from beta and detailed scan log seems to be missing info that are showed if FSS. What do you think about it?

Your journal files are in:

%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games - obviously in the Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous folder in there.

I assume you have to copy the EDDiscovery data too - I have mine in a separate drive but the json file(s) live elsewhere "%LOCALAPPDATA%\EDDiscovery" I suppose.

It seems this thread has been moves to, well a location that will just get it lost, I went looking for it by going back to the top level of the forums and couldn't find it so had to come back to the "moved" link in exploration to have a better read of the sub-forum, it's now down the bottom of the forum in "Elite Dangerous->Player Tools and API Discussions->In-Development Player Tools" instead of "Elite Dangerous->Exploration".

Yes I can understand that it's a tool, but it's a thread that is simply to important to many players to have it hidden away where most people will never find it, let alone even realise it exists.

Is there a reason for this, are we starting a whole new thread or maybe abandoning EDDiscovery altogether now that the Codex is coming out in 3.3 in just over a week?

I do not think it was moved recently.
