EDDiscovery

I set the netlog location to Manual and entered the path to the 64 bit subfolder
"user\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\elite-dangerous-64\Logs"
.
Within the 64 bit folder I set the verbose flag in the AppConfig file as said above. Works. EDDiscovery now lists the pre-Horizons systems and now the new ones.

HI
I've installed v2.6.0 - set the logs directory in settings - verbose logging is on in ELite. EDdiscovery has synced with EDSM and shows all my systems visited before today, but nothing for today. I've made three hyperjumps to different systems tonight but the main window doesn't show them. The output window at the bottom left of EDdiscovery is showing netlog 151215204818.01 added to local database. I'm guessing that the name refers to the time of the netlog of my last flight - i.e. 15/12/15 @ 2048 hours which would suggest that the netlogs are being created by Elite and being read by Eddiscovery. The main window is still showing my most recent system entry from the 12/12/15 when I last used the program. (last few days I was in the beta so didn't use EDdiscovery). I've restarted Elite and EDdiscovery as well as the PC but still get nothing new in the main output window.

I'm using Windows 10 x64 bit.

If you need any more info to solve this, let me know.

Thanks

I've just switched the PC on with the intention of sending log files and AppConfig.xml to Finwen and thought that I'd try EDdiscovery one more time. AppConfig.xml in 64 bit folder contains VerboseLogging - check. EDdiscovery settings checked to point to logs in the 64bit folder. Made one trip in ED and everything worked! Either your remote fixing skills have improved Finwen, or the restart of everything sorted it out. Either way, thanks for what you and the other programming boffins do to improve the playing of this game. Now we just have to wait for the EDAPI to be switched back on by Frontier!

I'm a new user and trying to set-up the latest version of EDDiscovery. Getting an error message that the netlog directory not found. I assume this is because I'm first time?? Will the program set it up or is there something I need to do? Any hints on how to properly use this program greatly appreciated!

Thanks Finwen. Before you replied, I tried what Pazmino suggested and it worked. My file structure is very different than what most everyone else reports. I find several AppConfig files, but none are in the User folder. The one I needed to change was in the game folder: C:/Games/Frontier/EDLaunch/Products/elite-dangerous-64. I can understand the path being different depending on where you install the game, but don't understand why my AppConfig is in the game folder vs User folder. The key for me was checking the box for Manual instead of Auto.

In any case, it's now working but I get an error message: Exception : Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at EDDiscovery.TravelHistoryControl.StoreSystemNote()

What does that mean?

Final question (for today): I want to clear my netlog and start a new game. Do I delete all the netlogs in that folder, just the last one? Is this safe to do? Edit: Tried deleting all the netlogs, but didn't clear the travel history in EDDiscovery. Help?

@Pazmino: I've also noticed that the AppConfig.xml in the \elite-dangerous-64\ folder has to be set to verbose as well.

You'll need to get rid of the database entries for the old log files. Easiest way to do this is to just delete (or move if you want to keep a copy as a backup) the EDDiscovery.sqlite file from your User's AppData\Local\EDDiscovery folder and then next time you fire up EDD it will make a new empty database and start reading your new netlogs into it (you'll also need to re-enter settings like your CMDR name and EDSM API key).

Thanks for your help. This is a lot easier than uninstalling, then re-installing EDDiscovery!

I'm now getting a message that the database is locked - anything I can do to fix it?

Edit: seems to have been fixed by opening the SQlite DB externally.

All grand for me on Win7. I knew it was too soon to upgrade ;)

Serious note though...

The 64 bit client is a new install and doesn't over-write the 32 bit one. Are you sure you've set VerboseLogging on the right config and checked EDD is reading the right log directory (see the settings tab)

C:\Users\%user%\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\elite-dangerous-64\Logs

and not

C:\Users\%user%\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1003\Logs

Thank you! I checked to see if verbose was on, but didn't even think about 32 bit/64 bit. The last time I dove into programming was when the Apple 2C was the hot new thing. It all works now, so you CAN teach an old dog new tricks.

Since the Horizons Launch I had some serious trouble playing Elite on my Win 7 PC at home.
I got some strange message "To ensure you are playing the most up to date version, please use the launcher to start the game." - no matter if playing with or without Horizons, 32 or 64 bit. Long story told short: Don't modify AppConfig.xml - if I add the verbose logging here, I can't start the client. If I put a file AppConfigLocal.xml with the content shown below, everything works. Anyway my local file looks a bit weird, but the original file is in the same format.
<AppConfig>
<Network
VerboseLogging="1"
>
</Network>
</AppConfig>

Notebook running Win 8.1 was fine.

Interesting, I've not had any problems editing my config on Win 7 but if the game is going to pick up an additional config file correctly then it will hopefully leave it in place after future updates and it will no longer be necessary to edit the config after every game update.

Strange, I updated EDSM - Companion to catch the new ED directory and it was working well on my computer.
