Release EDDN - live views

I tried to post this over in the tools board but apparently, I need a prefix. What prefix?
"The minimum number of prefixes requirement for this forum (1) has not been met."

I was wondering if there are any live maps of EDDN messages out there. I read about realtime views in the tools thread but apparently they were discountinued because of "abundance of better dashboards". All I can find are dead links.

Also, what's the source and license of the galactic disc image that so many tools use?
I'd like one with region borders but only found a version by Cmdr Qohen Leth on a random reddit post.

So I setup a flimsy 0mq-websocket relay (are there any tested and tried packages to use?) and grouped the categories I'd like to map:
https://eddntest.londo.homelinux.com/eddntest.html
https://eddn-realtime.space/
It's already fascinating as it is. See Robigo Runners plot their jumps, Cmdrs respawning at detention centers and explorers discover new icy bodies in far regions of the galaxy.

A crude prototype of a map also exists but it's going to slow down the browser with lots of spheres:
https://eddntest.londo.homelinux.com/eddntestmap.html (discontinued)

I've never done anything with threejs before. I probably need to look into PointsMaterial and such.

So, again, are there any existing live views, so I won't have to build one? :)

Not that I know, but that's pretty neat still. What do the different colours (seen black/blue/grey/orange so far) represent?

Wow, is that live information?

Edit: What a stupid post I just made.. Amazing to see so much activity in the galaxy, and these are just commanders sending to EDDN.. Very cool!

Very impressive.

I encourage you to please join our EDCD discord at https://discord.gg/pSzBkaGB if you want to talk to us, the developers of EDDN.

We have a stats service on https://eddn.edcd.io/ for server monitoring, it does not visualise like your tool does, its for server performance monitoring.

To be honest, the stats service would benefit from a visualisation like you've done. It could be hosted on our EDDN server (would need to check usage of course). So if you want to come and play with us, please join the discord.

Robby.

The prefix it's asking for is a label option when you create a thread. Because of the subforum you were trying to post in it needed to know whether it was (Discussion, Release, In Development, Abandoned).
I've moved it into the Tools forum and given it a Release prefix as I think that best suits. (didn't want to pressure you with an In-Development one ;) )

What do the different colours (seen black/blue/grey/orange so far) represent?

Ah, yes. the documentation is the sourcecode ;)

Blue lines indicate messages from Odyssey, orange-y from Horizons, grey supposedly indicates the base game but sometimes they come in pairs with duplicates from another tool that shows a different game type. I've seen those coming from EDDI, maybe it doesn't reliably detect the DLC?

Grey text color means that the message is older than 1 hour and not displayed on a map.
Bold yellow text is for taxi rides (I found EDD doesn't seem to set it for Frontline drop ships while EDMC does). The taxi flag is apparently only set on Docking/Location and FSDJump events, not for (Auto)Scans of bodies (if they're reported, I didn't look for that).

Harmonizing messages across tools for better dupe detection could be a worthwile mission to reduce feed clutter. There are quite a few duplicates where Cmdrs submit through multiple tools but their message differ slightly (EDMC sends additional fields where EDD doesn't and vice-versa).

is that live information?

More or less. Some Cmdrs let their tools report events live as they happen, others import their game journals into EDSM every now and then. During ED server maintenance (thus no live updates) I saw journal imports going back to 2020 coming in. First discoveries and all.
I can see why some explorers would not want to submit their discoveries in real-time, lest some snipes their UC fame on their next White Elephant ;) I like the live view, though.

Ok, I'll do that.

I found the tools listing entry that led me to the initial question:
Shut down as there are better tools out there.
Beta of a realtime visualiser for EDDN is up. With the sudden flurry of status pages, I don't know how relevant this is any more, but hey, it's pretty and another way to view the EDDN data.

Features:
  • Automatic feed of incoming EDDN data
  • Automatic daily update of galactic chart (sourced from eddb.io)
  • Visual display of where the data came from in the Elite galaxy
  • Lets you see at a glance most uploader activity, and whether anything might be behaving strangely
So there must have been a whole civilization of status pages. The wayback machine only found a few ruins. I took the liberty of reviving the old domain name.
