Edit 2: This bug also affects Baselisks. Are you willing to take a Thargoid lightning cannon to the face for Science?

They're aware of the issue and looking in to it (I finally got a response on my bug report).

My personal theory is that the Thargoid is forgetting to keep a pip in weapons.

I have recently noticed that the Thargoid makes a roar when it stops shooting if it stops shooting before the first heart drops. This appears to coincide with it replenishing an existing Thargon swarm.

I've become pretty good at taking out Thargons with the flak cannon, so I might have to do some more testing without the fighter.

Also 3.60kms is far enough away from the heart to avoid the toxic cloud, so as discovered previously the minimum safe distance is somewhere between 3.52km and 3.60km.

My attempts to get the Thargon swarm to refresh with no SLF around failed horribly. I'd either accidentally destroy the whole swarm or have it turn to missiles on the second pass every time.

Also after giving up on that I had a Thargoid stop shooting me before the heart went down without even going near the swarm, noticeably just after it destroyed my SLF.

I think there are multiple triggers for this bug all related to the Thargoid interacting with the SLF. It's a real pain to nail down exactly what's causing it and I hope the devs have better luck.

Just FYI, I had 2 encounters last night with Interceptor Thargoids using the new fighters and neither time did the Thargoid stop shooting, which may mean this particular bug requires the fixed beam laser imperial fighters that I normally use.

I will be heading out to poke Baselisk Thargoids later today, though from reports I'm seeing I can't imagine it will go well.

I managed to make a red Baselisk Thargoid stop shooting at me with this bug (using my usual fixed beam imperial fighters, not the new AX1 Taipan's...more testing required there).

Not sure what good it does me, and this one went into unlimited Thargon swarm mode on me shortly after I got it to stop shooting, so I didn't really get anywhere except a chance to demonstrate my profoundly excellent running away technique.

I was able to get the bug to happen the same way with AX1 fighters (Thargoid Baselisk stopped firing the moment the fighter docked).

Interestingly the Thargoid started firing again a few minutes later (once again after it went into unlimited Thargon Swarm mode). I believe that may have been a result of me re-launching the same fighter that docked before, but I'm not sure.

Experimentation continues.

For the record my best effort against a Baselisk solo so far is exposing a heart with my ship and getting that heart to 98% (from 100%) in the fighter.

Obviously that needs work.

Even when you can cheat and get the Baselisk to stop shooting at you the challenges are massive. To expose the first heart you need 6-7 missile strikes with quad missiles, which is your entire ships AX complement, and these Thargoids dodge better than the Cyclops varient, plus their greater speed tends to zoom them further away between passes. Sitting still does not work as they fly too far away at the end of each pass.

I have figured out you can get a much better result in terms of the Thargoid not getting too far away if you do a full reverse as it approaches and slow to zero as it goes past you. That's the only reason I was able to expose a heart at all.

You're also up against what appears to be a fixed time limit before the Thargoid goes into unlimited thargon swarm mode. That time limit appears to be somewhere around the 7 minute mark. You have to do an awful lot in that 7 minutes.

Edit 3: Still bugged as of 2.4.08. How to stop a Thargoid shooting at you while you murder it...

Still not fixed in 2.4.08.

At this rate I suspect it won't be fixed till 3.0.
