EDO system specs revealed: discussion

I sent a message to my friend so they could attempt to get a refund. I hope they do cause this screams false advertising.

they should be able to.
if you did not played it more than 2h and you are within the 14day since purchase (or release date for preorders) - they should refund no question asked
so, no worries.

I have essentially the "recommended specs" - same graphics card, slightly more RAM, slightly slower CPU - and Alpha ran reasonably well on "High" quality at 1920x1080 for me in most cases, except when in a big outside space where it was still playable but was definitely closer to 30 FPS than 60 - which doesn't bother me but obviously will be noticeable for many.

Assuming that the intervening optimisation has had some visible effect I'm expecting it'll be mostly okay for me in live, though.
Good to hear since I have almost the exact recommended. Ryzen 2600x, GTX1060 6GB, and 16Gb 3000Mhz RAM

So FDev lied. Nice going...
I wouldn't attribute it to malice. They've probably spent the past few weeks trying to bring the system requirements down as much as possible before release day, hence the late announcement.

If you are concerned, you should refund. Odyssey development won't end tomorrow; there are still bugs to fix and things to optimize. The final release will be in autumn, along with the console versions. Wait a while, then take another look. Things might have improved.

Very nice ship! Your own build?
Thank you! It is my design, took a lot of time in creative getting it just right before I built it proper-like in survival on Keen's multiplayer server.

Well, this will probably be the game that gets me to finally retire my current rig and upgrade. Just short of nine years, I think I got my money's worth. :D

It's just that now is a lousy time to upgrade, not just because that demand is outpacing supply for GPUs and CPUs. but also because the warm weather has already arrived. I hate the idea of buying a new PC now so it can sit there idle for most of the summer. Oh well. On the bright side, the coming summer is an incentive to take my time, and hope to score a decent deal somewhere. In the meantime, I have a Founder's sub to Geforce Now, which will allow me to play EDO with maxed-out settings (ED is there, so I am assuming EDO is coming, too). Technology to the rescue!

Ah dang. I was running alpha fine except for FPS drops in space station concourse bars, but it looks like my i5-3470 just isn't going to cut it anymore according to these minimums.
My specs are:

Probably can't get by the new minimums, can I?

Here are Recommended Specs for C2077:

High Settings

  • OS: 64-bit Windows 10
  • DirectX Version: DirectX 12
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-4790 or AMD Ryzen 3 3200G
  • Memory: 12 GB
  • Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB or
  • AMD Radeon R9 Fury
  • Storage: SDD (70 GB)
It similar but a little lower than Recommended specs for EDO.
And we all heard the story of C2077 failure on Ps4 and Xbox One.
So when C2077 console launched tanked hard, Fdev delayed their console release - we can all assume it similar FPS problems.

So they either planing a massive graphical downgrade for EDO console in order to get FPS, or we in for a another delay on Console in to 2022.

Plus EDO looks nowhere near as good as CP2077 to demand those types of specs, so what gives?

Well, I make the recommended requirements so I guess we will see.

One thing I wonder about these requirements are, exactly what
resolution are they talking about? 1080p? 1440p?

Windows 10 Pro x64
Ryzen 7 3700x
16GB Gskill Trident Z 3200
XFX Radeon RX 580 8GB
256Gb SSD
1TB HDD
LG Ultragear 1920x1080 144Hz

We shall see, I imagine the game will be better optimized than the Alpha was for sure
but by how much?

Very nice. Don't forget ownable and operable bases.

Someone mentioned SE on here and it has resulted in some very interesting creations. (Creative mode I might add!)

A viper and a stumpy, yet very capable and colourful shuttle.

Which you can walk around and sit in any seat. The hanger they are in is fully automated including warning lights, decompression, hanger doors...
Now I just have to give the Viper some context and that is going to be a BIG job:

Which is nowhere near completion and will get delayed due to the release of Odyssey.

Saying that, anyone who compares SE to Elite Dangerous is in serious danger of reality warping, universe ending paradoxes.

Hardware performance is not magic. Given an unoptimised starting point there's only so far things can improve. They must have known before the alpha that their claim of similar hardware requirements was unrealistic. It was obvious to all of us with modest rigs during the alpha.

The worst thing is that it's nigh on impossible to upgrade my system.
