EDO Update9: how is your performance?

Please try to reset graphics settings as detailed above, as we have basically the same pc and resolution settings, and while I'm not near horizons, it's definitely playable at 70 - 100 fps..

Lowest I've seen is 55 and that's not very often
I have. It didn’t help.

to be clear, I get decent framerates in space, but never more than 50 FPS on (uninhabited) planet surfaces.

Edit: I also have FXAA enabled

I'll have to take a look at CPU usage again, to see what's going on with this update, as there appears to be quite a mixed bag of performance improvements (or lack thereof).

Most of those seeing worse performance look to be either VRAM capacity limited, or are running quad-core CPUs.
Do you really believe a quad core makes a difference here? That would mean they have properly implemented mult threading. And that's smth they definitely have not.

Even well before Odyssey, it hasn't been hard saturate a quad core in Elite: Dangerous. The main game and render threads were never particularly well threaded, but the rest of the game was. If they have improved the threading, or even simply fixed some of the hangups the main game thread has had with EDO, that could be enough to make the combined workload of the other threads a limiting factor.

RX570 4GB
i7-3770

First of all is set FPS limit to 30 FPS + VSYNC=ON.
Performance in social hubs now is playable at 1440p 27-30FPS (mostly 30) High/Ultra mix of settings with standard upscaling (no FSR - 100% res).
Planetary surfaces solid 30 FPS (SRV, flying ship, walking).
Space = solid FPS.
Settlements = there are places when FPS drops to 20 and but mostly 25-30FPS.

I think i have to say big Thank You Frontier! This is like a Christmas gift for me. :)

There is still one BIG-GIG problem. Each update i am testing in same situation and also update 9 fails on this.
Last training mode scenarion - FPS drops to 50% soon after inserting power regulator! No matter where you are on the map...

Am running an OC'ed 6-core, and my VRAM never allocates more than 7GB of my 8GB. So I don't qualify under your conditions but am seeing either no improvement or negative improvement.

I actually think that most FPS drops you get with more NPCs it might be quiet the opposite for the NPC logic being run single core instead of mutlicore

Looks like my i7 4790k is living on borrowed time: what would you choose between current Ryzen and Alderlake?? My GTX 1080 will have to soldier on for a while yet ..

I've noticed significant improvements in performance on my laptop (specs in signature) using 1080p custom settings with no scaling (to my knowledge; it looks to be turned off). After the assets had properly cached, I was getting ~55-60fps on planetside ports and starports.

One thing I did notice was that it was making my (repasted and undervolted) CPU run hot. Hot enough to throttle by a few hundred MHz, in fact, although this didn't seem to impact on performance.

I haven't played on my desktop yet as I haven't had the time.

I prefer Ryzen these days, solely due to performance per £ in comparison to Intel. I also got a bit bored with Intel's "new chip, new socket" attitude.

As for performance in U9... I'll not add anything useful currently, I've just bought a 6900 XT and literally has just a couple of hours play in U8 to set a baseline.
But, I have seen some perceived improvements so far in comparitive FPS in a High CZ played in U8. I'll update in a couple more days, hopefully by then there would have been a hotfix for some of the new bugs.

There is a livestream on my youtube where I tested the Scorpion on an atmo body before doing anything useful with it, if anyone wants to take a peek...

Link below that shows a little, once I'd got OBS settings correct. Native 4k downscaled to 1440 /60 for youtube.

Gosh people.... 6900 XT..... is it worth mention this card in any case at all?
It is like... You know grandma i bought you a new bed (actualy bought a house).
Some people trying to play this game even on GTX960 2GB.
I am also with relatively old card RX570 4GB and i can play... I am starting to be able to play this game...
What you all doing there with your 6900 XT experiences - i don't understand.

Because the game played like unfossilised coprolites at launch even on high-end machines. For instance, my old RTX2060 (not high end, but some 60% faster than your RX 480), couldn't even maintain 60 in stations. Users of high-end GPUs also often have high refresh-rate monitors that the cards can max out in properly optimised games.

General performance while hooning around in the wilds in the Scorpion was OK'ish I guess. Perhaps 43fps where I was getting 40fps previously.

BUT I'm experiencing an absolute game breaker when landing at settlements. The on-screen fps continues to show mid-30s but the game absolutely grinds to a <1fps stop (headlook completely freezes, ship locks and is almost inpossible to land), and this lasts for over a minute, maybe two, before things start working again. Has anyone else experienced this?

Where is this settlement?

I'll gladly go take a look after dog walkies if I have one of my accounts within a reasonable distance, if that helps.

It happened at every settlement I landed at. I grabbed a mission from an on-foot npc, delivered a package to another settlement, returned to the first to finish the mission, and went to a third to try a settlement raid in the Scorpion. Every time, total lockup just as I was about to land.

Ryzen 7 5800X
RX 6800 XT
32 GB RAM
Game on SSD.

In space I can get 144 FPS no problem (although I set a limit of 90 FPS in general to avoid lags).
In stations I get a stable 90 FPS.
Settlements? Still getting 50-60 which is very bad for this type of rig.

So basically no change from U8 for me.

I'll go do a few - I've only done surface CZs yesterday.
