EDProfiler - A New Display Switcher/Robust Settings Profiler/Switcher/Detector!

Can anyone please hep me with my controller binding files? I'm new to Steam. I got my gamepad all set up a couple of nights ago. Then I disconnected it and connected my HOTAS, and set all of those bindings. As far as I could tell, Elite was adding all my bindings to a single controller preset called Custom.

Now I've disconnected my HOTAS, reconnected my controller, and all my bindings are gone. I saved my Thrustmaster binding file into the Elite folder as "thrustmaster" but all I see in the EDP drop down menu is three different ones called Custom.

https://imgur.com/dVnCoZ9

How am I supposed to know which is which? How do I manually select the one I want in Elite? How am I supposed to configure a controller and a HOTAS to play well together?

I'm horribly confused.

My guess is that if you edit the three different binding files in the elite "Bindings" folder (probably in C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings) using notepad you'll see a line near the top that reads something like ..

<Root PresetName="Custom" MajorVersion="2" MinorVersion="0">

Change the word "Custom" in each of those files to something more meaningful (e.g. if you have a file called "Thrustmaster.binds" then change that PresetName to "Thrustmaster").

Once you've done that you should find that when you next start the game your custom presets are each appropriately named.

Thanks Alec, this is correct

Spot on Alec, thank you very much! And thank YOU very much, Dr. Kaii! Your tool has made my first tentative steps into VR (and PC gaming!) much easier to manage. I never use PayPal but I'll get that sorted and get a donation on its way to you.

You are most welcome and if you ever get round to it, much appreciated! If not, don't worry, it's free forever

Hi drkaii, just wondering if you were aware of the new graphics option in 2.4?
orR8jZQ.jpg

Having a bit of an issue since switching to steam from standalone that I can't seem to figure out. EDprofiler worked fantastic previously to switching (only switched because I couldn't get ED to launch in VR for whatever reason in the standalone launcher), but after switching to steam, none of the graphics settings seem to be applying in game.

I've completely wiped all standalone ED folders and reinstalled EDprofiler thinking it might be a pathing issue (still think this is the issue) but didn't seem to help. I've also checked the Paths.xml file and made sure everything was directed correctly...or at least what I assume was correct, haha, and still no luck.

Seems like the HUD switcher still works, it's just none of the graphics settings seem to be applied to the game when clicking apply in the profiler.

Thanks in advance!

Just popping in to say a big thank you to DrKaii for this exceedingly handy tool, it's an absolute godsend when trying to switch between VR and Monitor, top job Sir :)

Will the new update cause any issues or will this still work fine?
Nope :)

Erm, well EDProfiler works off your C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\graphics folder, and as far as I know non-steam and steam versions both use that. If EDProfiler isn't working, it's because that folder isn't in use and I wouldn't be able to tell you why, because that's exceptional. If you have that folder try backuping and deleting all the files within and then starting ED and see if they get created. If they don't ED def isn't using them and you need to consider completely wiping all ED files from your computer and then reinstalling from scratch.

Dr Kai, thought I would pass on something - I know you have a RIFT, so I thought it might be of interest.

I switch between triple screen and Astro A50 headset, and the RIFT with RIFT standard headphones and do this pretty reguarlly in gaming session. Eg VR for combat, but might switch back to Single screen with netflix on the other screen for a super long series of jumps or exploration jawnt.. Distant Worlds 2 maybe :p then switch back to VR for close up \ immersion when I want it.

I also heavily use Voice Attack with HCS Packs, which - as I am sure you know - relies up really well trained speech recognition profiles to work well.

One thing thats annoying is having to run 2 different Speech Recog profiles so it works with high confidence with the different mics (A50 headset and RIFT Mic). I could just remove the RIFT headphones and use my A50's over my HMD - but for me - the RIFT is enough, i dont need other head bulk.

To get around that, I use your "custom" files to do a bunch of things (like Launch VA, EDMC, ED Discovery etc) - I also now use it to execute either an import of a "RIFT_Recog" or "A50_Recog" registry file. I am sure it could be coded through Windows API'S to pull a dropdown list or something of selectable Voice Recog profiles per Display profile, but I am happy with my work around :p until I find an easier way or can code a lot better myself.

What I did notice - when I "add" things to the custom file list - it doesn't recognize as a change to the profile, the SAVE is still greyed out, so I just make a change to Draw distance (example) - hit Save and then set draw distance back to what it was - hit Save again. <<- not sure if you\others can reproduce that - but thought I would let you know.

Note:- I also use a program called sound switcher for audio mic\output switching, but it doesnt have the ability to run other files\programs - so the fact you thought about that and included it is just awesome!

A few comments:

1. - I have a laptop, and your app doesn't fit into my screen. I mean, yes, I can resize it, but I have to scroll to see all the innards. For the HUD editor, I can't use the top menu and the bottom sliders at the same time :) . I have to scroll between them.

2. - No easy way to copy/paste stuff like this out of your app (at least none that I have found so far):
Code:
<MatrixRed> 0.25, 0, -2 </MatrixRed>
<MatrixGreen> -2, 2, 2 </MatrixGreen>
<MatrixBlue> 2, 0, 0 </MatrixBlue>
If I want to test some scheme I picked up somewhere, am I supposed to fill all nine fields manually? Oh boy. It can be done for one or two schemes, but not when you have countless. I consider this copy/paste ability essential for my working with HUD schemes. The other two HUD tools I've seen had a way to do it; either a field to copy it from, or just a buton that copied the right code into the clipboard. I could be trying tens and tens of variants until settling for one and I need my data easy to put in and out, not to be locked with the tool.

3. - It's nice that it has everything but the kitchen sink in there, so we can see how it will all get modified, portraits included. One last little thing you could maybe add would be wingmen scanner indicators (as they have a different color than the others, but they're the same as shields basically, so why bother). So your tool is a nice place to test schemes, but the above point makes it unwieldy for me.

Later edit: Oh wait, I can copy-paste in my game config file and it loads up into the tool. I suppose that's one way to do it.

When I use the HUD editor to scroll through different presets(NO2O, etc,) then select one I like, it doesn't save/apply that preset for me. I wind up just noting the name of the preset, closing the colour/HUD selector and then using the drop down selector, back in the main screen, to choose the one I just previewed in the colour/HUD editor.

What am I doing wrong, how do I apply it to my settings from the screen in which I can preview it? Or, at least, how do I get those settings to carry back to the main screen so that I may apply the change?

Hi folks, I encourage you to Donate if possible, as I did to Dr Kai earlier on to help him out continue supporting his awesome project, I know I rely upon it relentlessly.

ED Profiler GUI colour will NOT save anymore!

ED Profiler just recently did an auto update and it pretty much is useless to me now.. I used to use it for the GUI Colour changer but now if I click "Save Preset" it does NOT save correctly at all!!!! There is literally no Blue channel numbers being saved.. and if I try to reopen a profile I saved I get an error and it crashes. PLEASE FIX THIS. I would really love to keep using this great program!

BTW it's using version 2.3. I have wiped ALL settings and even cleared out registry settings (yes I know what I'm doing) and reinstalled.. there seems to be a major issue with how the program is saving GUI colour profiles.

ED Profiler GUI colour will NOT save anymore!

When I save a GUI Colour profile it does NOT save the Blue channel numbers and if I try to reopen anything saved it gives me an error. I have reinstalled and cleared out all settings and everything... still is causing me the issue. It just started doing this after a recent automatic update and there's NO way to use an older version because the installer auto downloads the newest version.

Hey man, just installed. Wanted to say thanks because it's making HUD colour edits so easy!

Hope someone can help. I’ve been using edprofiler for about a year now with no problems. I tried firing it up today and I get a quick window that says edprofiler has stopped working. I’ve tried file deletions that are mentioned on the troubleshooting page but still no go. Please help I’m in VR and can’t bear to play with the default HUD ☹️. Tried reinstalling the profiler as well
