EDProfiler - A New Display Switcher/Robust Settings Profiler/Switcher/Detector!

Really useful tool for messing around with graphics settings. Many thanks!

Small bug report: In this method: EDProfiler.EDPMainForm.Button_CreateNew_Click makes an exception when there is a forward slash in the profile name. Something is turning it into a backslash then using the result as a file name.

ED Profiler just recently did an auto update and it pretty much is useless to me now.. I used to use it for the GUI Colour changer but now if I click "Save Preset" it does NOT save correctly at all!!!! There is literally no Blue channel numbers being saved.. and if I try to reopen a profile I saved I get an error and it crashes. PLEASE FIX THIS. I would really love to keep using this great program!

BTW it's using version 2.3. I have wiped ALL settings and even cleared out registry settings (yes I know what I'm doing) and reinstalled.. there seems to be a major issue with how the program is saving GUI colour profiles.

To the the Great Dr:

I am suffering this in-ability to save any new HUD colour changes as it never save the blue channel at all.

If you have 10 mins or so could you have a quick shuftti please, and i am sure you will fix it.

Huge Thanks

o7

When I save a GUI Colour profile it does NOT save the Blue channel numbers and if I try to reopen anything saved it gives me an error. I have reinstalled and cleared out all settings and everything... still is causing me the issue. It just started doing this after a recent automatic update and there's NO way to use an older version because the installer auto downloads the newest version.

Using the profiler

Hi,
Downloaded and installed the application, but when I try and launch Elite (2D) I get a warning that I should start it via Oculus. I browsed to the launcher at:
C:\Program Files\Oculus\Software\Software\frontier-developments-plc-elite-dangerous\EDLaunch but it is still in VR mode, rather than 2D. Help!!!

Hi, this little app looks cool, but it doesn't work on my system, possibly because I have ED installed on a different drive, not the default location. is there a setting in the app that allows me to point the app at the relevant files?

See the end of this message for details on invoking

Hello
I’m a new Rift user and most threads regarding setup of the HMD pointed to the EDProfiler tool.

I run a 1080 with a 7700cpu. Selected VR ultra and been playing the game under these settings but it’s rather blurry. (Like the pips on the power distributor looks like a line rather than pips when I sit back)

I tried different graphic settings but it doesn’t seem to make any difference. I went from no supersampling to 1.5 to 2 but there is absolutely no change whatsoever. I read somewhere that your tool does not change the SS in-game, perhaps that was fixed along the way. Should I be using the debug tool or the chaperone tool as well?

It's possible that for some reason ED Profiler is not updating the game files - to troubleshoot, in-game set HMD Quality to 2.0 and see if you notice the difference (everything, especially text, should be much sharper). Then change it back to 1.0. Now try the same in EDProfiler and see if it makes any difference. You are making the change before starting the game, right? You can't make changes on the fly.

Correct. Even though it’s a steam install, the start game button on EDProfiler will open the launcher. I then select horizons 64 and start by clicking on the launcher. I always make sure to apply EDP settings before launching the game.

I think it does link to the game since my gamma and hud settings translate in-game. I will try toggling HMD quality in game once I have a chance to log in.

I just reminded myself of the VR Ultra settings - I wouldn't use those, SS is at 1.25 and HMD Q is at 1.0. I have a 1080 with a 6700K and I have SS at 1.00 and HMD Q at 1.50 with AO off. Only time it occasionally drops to 45FPS (ASW) is in a busy RES. You will see the most benefit from increasing the HMD Q setting. You may need to play around with the settings to see what works best for you.

Thanks for the accurate and swift advice MAIN. FYI I just got back from hols/vacation and am working my way out of jet lag, then I shall catch up on this thread sometime this week hopefully

Well after about a month of playtime in default graphic settings and playing like a VR peasant I went in-game to change settings and lo - what a change! EDP never actually translate any changes i’ve made, despite never getting an error message. It will detect my current settings after I made the change in game, but will not change any setting when prompted to. I can confirm that after I tried to change hud Colors. Is steam to blame?

I scrapped the steam install and re-done it through frontier site. I can confirm 100% fixed now. All changes worked. Blame steam

Hope you had a great time. be great if you can figure out why I can't get your loader to work with ED. by the way, I don't use steam, if that's of any help to you.

* Edit *

I thought the problem was on my end, This is why I removed original post.
When I enter my own HUD color information in the Red Green Blue boxes in in GUI Colour section and select "Save Preset", for some reason it omits the last line, (Blue). As a work around I edit the file {Preset Name} in "Documents\EDProfiler\GUIProfiles" folder, to include the last line.

Minor inconvenience, just wanted to let you know. Great applicaiton, thanks for sharing.

Jet Lag sucks, i don't mind it so much travelling west, but east past the middle east sucks for me big style.

When you are fully recovered could you have a look at the issue of not being able to save any 'Blue' setting in the HUD Gui colours please.

Thanks and welcome back to a Cold UK :(

I set the "Cool blue" default setting with EDProfiler in VR last night and it worked fine.

OK, i am out of the country so not able to get in game till Sunday, but will give it another go, but what is happening for me is that i will select a colour scheme from the list and then i have a little play with the colours either using the sliders or inputiing direct numbers, i then save my effect and the entire blue line refuses to save. If i go into the xml files ED uses for this i can see that it has not inputeed any blue numbers at all, so if i alter the xml file to reflect the blue numbers i have chosen, i can then play the game with the HUD i have created, but if i then go back into ED Profiler again it refuses to see that blue line being read from the XML file.

If i choose any of the colours from the list provide by the ED Profiler it inputs the blue line no problem.

I have tried saving my creation but it flatly refuse to remember any of the blue line numbers, as i mentioned the only way i can get my own creation of HUD colours is to edit the ED XML File directly, but then i start ED profiler up again and it is not there!!

Strange it is :( thats why i need the advice help from the good Dr ;)

Hi guys, I've got an update for 2.4, but it includes a new project and .exe with its own certificate and so the update is currently broken. I'ts 1.30am so I'll try and fix over the coming week (and any tips or suggestions about how to sort that out - I'm using ClickOnce - would be very welcome)

No need to look for a vague difference.

Change something in the profiler, check settings in game.
Are they applied or not?

Ok, EDProfiler is updated to 2.4!

Changes:

2.4 introduces a brand new feature - ED Chat Logs Browser! It's a separate program I made a while back that didn't get much attention. I use it quite often to recall a chat or check if I missed anything so I thought I'd just include it in EDP for anyone else who would like that functionality. It's currently in beta and no guarantee I will fix the minor bugs, but please let me know about any major ones.

If I feel there is a lot of positive interest in the tool, I will really tidy it up, but for now it's very functional.

I've also finally got round to including the Volumetric Clouds Quality setting.

Due to space concerns I've decided to go wide, rather than any longer (people on laptops were already struggling to fit it on screen) and thus have changed the layout.

I've also fixed a couple of small issues, including the fact that messing with custom files didn't activate the Save button.

I've included some more GUI profiles, namely 4 that were designed by forum user edgepixel that maintain the security colours (enemies red etc.). I've also changed it so that the ""included"" GUI profiles don't automatically return every time there is an update, so if you delete some, they are gone for good! If you ever want the ""included"" ones, there is now a button to import them.

Lastly, I've added copy and paste functionality for the GUI colours, so you can copy out the values with <MatrixRed></MatrixRed> etc. tags included, or paste into EDProfiler the values that you've copied with the tags (such as if you copy from a forum thread or from the .cfg files)

As for the HUD editor, forum user edgepixel has brought to my attention that for some matrix values, the station menu colours don't match what our third party HUD editors are displaying, so I will be looking to solve that problem and perhaps further optimise the HUD editor, so stay tuned for that.

Fly dangerous CMDRS!
