Eeny meeny miny mo...which mod out of all shall go...

On my Mav suit, Executioner and Tormentor.

I've been (mostly) enjoying making the biggest shopping list in the galaxy to unlock all engineers, G5 my suit and guns and mod them too. I'm almost there with G5'ing it all, but before I jump in and spend all the remaining materials I've murdered so many NPCs in pursuit of, what does the hive mind recommend? I probably won't be upgrading any other suits in the short term, so other than when I'm Bio scanning I'll be using the Mav for everything. It seems to perform fine in conflict zones and base clearing as well as the usual stuff.

For the Exec it came G2 with Stowed Reload, which is good, but for the suit I was thinking Extra Backpack Capacity, Extra Battery, and Improved Jump Assist for the big boing.

The Exec (yes I know, but I like it), I'm thinking Increased Reload Speed, Magazine Size, Audio Masking and..... 🤷‍♂️

The Torm is getting Noise Suppressor, Audio Masking and possibly Scope and Headshot Damage.

Your thoughts and critique would be most welcome. o7

Improved scope and magazine size I´d say are a must for the Exec. For the Tormentor, if you improve the scope I would consider swapping that headshot damage (those plasma bolts kill already in one) for increased range.

Improved Scope, ok I'll look into that one, cheers. Fair comment on the Headshot too. Does Increased Range actually increase it or reduce damage fall off... if that's a thing?

The Greater Range mod actually increases your weapon effective damage range by 50% before it falls off. From 15 to around 22-23 meters in the Tormentor case. Pretty sure it should give you more damage output than the headshot mod in the long term, and help you with insta kills beyond those 15m.

Headshot mods are better used in high frequency low damage per projectile weapons such as kinetic or laser. Possibly the plasma Oppressor too. Coupled with the scope and stability mods to help land and synergize those head shots.

For me, the optimum is:

Maverick : Night vision: + improved battery capacity + reduced tool battery capacity + preference. The backpack is only useful early on.

Executioner: Audio masking + scope + stability + Magazine Size

Tormentor: Noise Suppressor + Audio Masking + stability + magazine size

Stability, I think is underrated. You can get that second shot off more quickly. With the Executioner, I am often firing the second shot before the first has hit, giving the target less time to react.

Thanks for the info.

I was discussing Night Vision with a fellow CMDR the other night whilst we were skulking round a base and I wondered about how useful it is. I'm guessing if you're wanting to be super stealthy you'd use it instead of a torch? Does it drain battery much too? I get what you're saying about backpack, but I think I'll be revisiting some shopping lists if I decide to continue engineering with the Artemis and Dominator suits, or would you agree the Mav is fine for pretty much all scenarios save bio scanning?

Very interesting regarding your experience with stability too. The standard gap between shots is frustrating.

:)

If I had to pick just one mod for any of the suits, it would be Night Vision. It doesn't drain the battery at all.

i read the title and thought this was somehow going to be a thread about eliminating a forum mod.
like, maybe via a game or contest ...or just community voting.

instead it was just about foot suit stuff. Extremely disappointed.

Having played with the G5 Executioner myself, could someone explain why it seems to be one of the most popular weapons? I find it slow (handling, rate of fire and reloading), cumbersome and anything but comfortable when compared to something like the Tormentor or a glitched out tunnel bore Intimidator.

I don't like it either. It literally only has one purpose: Stealth kills outdoors.
Being silenced is not enough if you don't kill the target with one shot.

Outside of High CZs I find an Intimidator with a Noise Suppressor and a Tormentor with Audio Masking more than sufficient (always want to keep an option open to lure NPCs with unsilenced gunfire).

I use a Mav for most tasks. Its got Night Vision (the best mod), Jump Assist, Fast Shield Regen (useful for CZs and massacre missions) & still decided on the last (maybe Combat Movement)

Backpack capacity isn't that useful after you've got gear to a certain level. I managed to find a pre-modded Mav with Extra Backpack. I've used it maybe 3 times.

Thanks all for your suggestions and experience. Sounds like Night Vision is the way to go initially, with Battery Capacity, but then the remaining slots depend very much on personal preference and play style.
For the Executioner, Scope & Mag, mine also has Stowed Reloading, so probably Audio Masking to finish it off.
The Tormentor is getting Audio Masking, Noise Suppressor, Stability and possibly a Scope or Stowed Reloading

Now to add some new recipes on Inara and see what else I'm missing :)

I use the Executioner in PvP CZ (with Dominator and Intimidator) :
  • Magazine size : probably mandatory on Exec, Intimidator and L-6. Who doesn't want extra shots.
  • Fast Reload : reduces by only 1s, but since Exec reload very often, it seems good to me.
  • Stability : Exec has the biggest recoil of all, so it's a very good mod.
  • ? (probably 'Stowed Reload', but I'm investigating 'Extended Range')

I just made a new demo, a lot of Exec :

In High CZ, 'Extended Range' could be maybe good to kill 'Enforcers'. I noticed that even with their shield down, it stills take 2 bodyshots with Exec G5 to finish them. I'm not sure how 'Ext. Range' works, if it gradually reduces fall-off, then it might one-shot them (and CMDRs )
