General / Off-Topic Effect of US Default on Frontier/ED

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Wow, this topic exploded quickly :)

You know, everyone assumes that the majority of the money being loaned to the US government is coming from outside the country, ala China. While China does indeed hold a lot of US debt the majority of lenders are US citizens. Pensions/retirement plans/investments, etc. Basically if the US decides to default it'll be deciding to not pay back itself for the money it loaned itself. :S

My wife and I have a bet going. She's thinking we won't default and I'm betting we will. She's pointed out that we're effectively wagering on the global economy living or dying. :p

To all my foreign friends, let me just apologize for my dysfunctional government. I don't like it any more than you do, lol!

And back to OP's point, no...I can't see a default seriously impacting the future of ED. Unless we all wake up tomorrow in some kind of Mad Max dystopia, of course. Hmmm.

A bit like not twigging that BP is not a long gone company called "British Petroleum" (as Obama claimed on national TV), but is in fact a multinational called "BP" (at once point "BP Amoco PLC") 49% US owned, c. 25% owned by US corporate investments, I.e. US workers' pension funds... so who is it that much of those dodgy compensation billions are coming from?

Re. the OP. No direct effect. Frontier is not a US company.

Don't sweat it, that's what most high profile business folks in the US (and other countries) did for the last couple of decades... ;)

Haha. Here is a little taste from Karl Marx. He had it all figured out. To bad he didnt realise people dont listen or they seem to forget the more they are influenzed by greed. Greed and control is the demize of man. Just look at history.

Karl Marx says:
He called capitalism the "dictatorship of the bourgeoisie," believing it to be run by the wealthy classes for their own benefit; and he predicted that, like previous socioeconomic systems, capitalism produced internal tensions which would lead to its self-destruction and replacement by a new system: socialism.

So in the end US will become social democratic if it all turns good :)

What really surprises me is how many US citizens believe that the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) is socialist. It's a subsidized, market based insurance scheme that was concocted by conservative think tanks and initially implemented by a Republican governor.

Of course we still have people that think Obama is a closet Muslim and was born in Kenya. <sigh>

I suppose we never really ended Reconstruction after the Civil War.

There are also some people that think there is no internet in France :D

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, this is toppity top secret of closet socialists! Capitalists should *never* discover this! Otherwise everyone will end up like Sweden, all too reasonable and stable to rise actual revolution! :D :D :D

It is hard to end something like this if defeated side keep thinking that they have never been wrong. Post-war courts is still a rarity in modern times, and even then it is sometimes viewed as "victors writing history" (which is partially true - WWII and events around is really ugly, cruel and horrific mess, with almost no innocent side if we are talking about governments). So it is not so easy to do it. Who gives you moral authority to judge defeated? You can clearly judge those committed crimes, but can you judge their belief?

Also I want to point out that these people is very marginal group. Problem is, Republicans as a party heavily depends on them. I would like to see Republicans to return to their moderate right policies, but they keep pushing into ultra right territory for reasons unknown to me.

Oh dear. -1 Pedantic point.

History does indeed teach us everything, we however do not learn from it.
Please, take all the pedantic points you want. They are "you're s" to keep. Cherish them for they are my gift to you. Hang them in a pride-of-place position over the mantle piece for all to admire.

If we have to quote Karl Marx, I've always liked this one:

"We have no compassion and we ask no compassion from you. When our turn comes, we shall not make excuses for the terror."

from Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels "Suppression of the Neue Rheinische Zeitung", Neue Rheinische Zeitung, May 19, 1849

And their followers never did exhibit compassion when they put his ideas into practice.
