Engineers Efficient VS Focused lasers

Hi,

I am currently running focused burst lasers on my Eagle.
Quite happy with it. Always in Close combat less than 1 km.

But I am wondering would the Efficient ones be better?
The add 25% more damage but loose on the armour piercing.

But they can be run with two pipes instead of Three in weapons.

Whether you use efficient or a proper laser mod (hehe), is determined by your piloting skill. If you are a seasoned pip fiddler and can manage the extra power draw represented by focused and long range, they are superior in almost every way. There is one simple reason for this, efficient damage drops off at 600m and rapidly gets down to pitiful levels the further out you are.

Think of it this way, efficient are about 50% easier to use for about 20% less damage than long range/focused over the course of a typical engagement (because a typical engagement is fought at between 1000 and 2000m ;) )

The other advantage of long range/focused is that g1 is a better dps mod than G5 efficient, simply because it removes all the damage drop off (you do max damage at point blank AND maximum range)

He is in an Eagle, which kind of needs to be close to survive so Id say that for the eagle probably efficient, but on larger ships use focused

Will depend on engagement distance, laser type/size, and how much capacitor drain you can afford.

You have to be pretty far away for long range or focused lasers to out do efficient in damage for a given WEP consumption. Falloff starts at 500 or 600m but damage still won't drop to base until over 1km and DPE will still be better until around 2km.

Since pulse and burst lasers are already pretty WEP efficient (at least relative to beams) and smaller lasers have terrible penetration values, I tend to run focused on them.

On beams, especially larger ones, I mostly run efficient, unless I only have one and can afford the WEP draw of something else.
