Electrified Hull

It would be cool to have a module or an utility slot capable of electrifying hull.

It would work like Thermal Cascade, increasing heat when you are in physical contact with a ship with a shield.
Against ships without shield it would cause major malfunction all over the ship.

It would not damage shield as shield can modulate their electric polarity and adapt to this electric field.

It could be used against rammers to create malfunction in their ships, making them dead fish in the vast universe for a few seconds.
It could of be used by rammers to overheat their enemie's in the same time of removing their shield, but they would also suffer a bit from overheat or malfunction as well as the shock can spread electricity all around.

It could be used both defense and attack :
- In defense your surprise your enemy if he rams you by overheating him (shield) or creating malfunction in his ship (no shield).
- In attack you could ram your enemy and cook him (shield) or creating malfunction in his ship (no shield).

I think it would a fun new weapon to use !

For the one who don't know what is thermal cascade and it's effect :

Thermal Cascade : They are experimental munitions that interact with shields upon detonation, generating significant heat on the target.

It sounds half baked, it can't work against rammers with no consequences for the user, but then work FOR rammers with consequences for using it.
Then there's the hull damage.
Then there's the fact that whatever else out there is still gunning for you, whilst you have kissy times with this one ship.
Plus, it doesn't work on shields? So does the user just have no shields? Do they have to drop shields to use it? Do people ram other ships when they themselves have no shields?
If not, then this defence will have zero effect, because the object of ramming is to hit a target with a significant velocity differential, is it not?
So, your collision event will be minimal, and if they have shields up, they gain a slight heat increase, whilst you're still dead.

On top of that, isn't that just a point blank EMP, with disadvantages?

It would also be great against giant squids....Just ask Capt. Nemo.
Sorry, the devil made me do it.

DevCMDR you didn't understood : This weapons make ship with shield to overheat like thermal cascade does.
But i agree with you that there shouldn't be drawback in one side and not in the other. In this case it should be equally be used as defense or for attack.

Do people ram other ships when they themselves have no shields?
Yes, many people go for hull tank with no shield with FAS/FGS/FDS... because on those ship shield is so weak that they gain hugely more protection from hull tanking them. And they often ram at you to remove your shield.

On top of that, isn't that just a point blank EMP, with disadvantages?
No EMP make you dead fish in water. EMP is what Thargoids use on us. It's a lot stronger than what i propose. I propose something fun to use for defense against rammers and for ramming attack. It can be quite fun.

So, your collision event will be minimal, and if they have shields up, they gain a slight heat increase, whilst you're still dead.
When you have a ship with superior shield and/or hull you can ram at people and disable their shield without any real consequences. So this weapon can be used effectively for ramming people or as a protection against rammers.

Thermal Cascade : They are experimental munitions that interact with shields upon detonation, generating significant heat on the target.

No, I get it. It just doesn't make sense.
If it only increases the heat whilst touching, and the object of ramming is to hit with a large speed difference then heat gain is going to be minimal, because you won't be touching for that long.
Why would they hump your shield/hull?
If the heat gain is significant enough to be an issue, you would literally be melting things.

As a defensive measure, this seems significantly less effective than some kind of EMP style device. Or a gun. Or a shield cell/bank.

This is an incredibly specific tool, which as a counter measure is basically worthless.
Someone with no shield rammed me? They're disabled for a moment, great! But I'm dead... Bummer.

As an offensive tool, if you ripped their shields off before ramming them, then it could be worthwhile, but even so, it would make more sense for this to be an experimental effect to add to shields, so those ships you mentioned could use their shields as weapons.
