Let's just give everybody in the game the system map info and have done with.
Man, I wish I'd known that when I pancaked my Asp last year and lost months of exploration data. The loss was painful enough. Learning that it might have been caused by a bug was worse. This, if true, feels like a much-delayed kick in the spuds. If you get destroyed and choose the 'Sidewinder' option, i.e. lose your ship, then you keep the data

Don't apologise; even if it turns out to be unfounded things like this need investigating and proving one way or the other and if you hadn't said anything I wouldn't even have considered it as a possibility. I did condition my statement with an "if true", and others have used similar qualifications, so I don't think it's reached the status of FAKE NEWS! just yet. It certainly needs investigating, but neither of my CMDRs is in a position to test it without enormous risk. First chance I get I'm going to test this using a relatively cheap ship and some near-bubble exploration data, unless someone gets there first. Which is sort of the theme for this thread, if you think about it.I wish I haven't posted this - now I'm strating to beleive I'm total nuts and misread/misunderstood* something in the past
*misunderestimated too![]()
Bust of Marco Polo pleaseBonus: 36 or bust!
Jump range of almost 55 Ly without jumponium/other boosts is needed, and the full Neutron Star boost up there is one way ticket (well, you can double-charge & jump right back from AH Cancri, but then the rest of the cluster is off limits).Bust of Marco Polo please
What do you mean it wasn't a question?
On a related note: Is it not possible to go out there and come back with the help of the Fuel Rats? Or are the distances so great that even Fuel Rats won't be able to reach/refuel you?

optimal may be mixing up exploration data with inventory data. I'm pretty sure you lose exploration data when you lose your ship
People put a lot of dedication into playing a game and making a discovery.
They should be allowed to keep the credit for it.
A lot of people here seem keen to rain on someone else's parade and for what? MUH IMMURSHUN!?
I say well done to them for doing something not many people would do because it's difficult and time consuming! Credit where credit's due!
I don't think the complaints are against "Immersion", they're just complaints. They sacrificed their ship for the jump. Lets say there's cryostasis in there and it's small enough that a single charge can leap them quickly to a beacon, there's your immersion reason why they get back. And sacrificing the ship, they can rip out the memory modules containing the information. No time to do that if your reactor blows after being holed in combat. So getting the credits for the scan also solved.
A few glitches and so what? People made out like bandits with glitches like farming skimmers. Should they have their rank and credits removed if they took those missions? No, it's done and over with.
Same here. Unless I were willing to fit up and engineer a ship to discard, MAYBE then I'd have a reason to complain, because I can't get those new scan merits. But not a very good one.
I just don't see why people can't be happy when something good happens to someone else?
One of the more irritating facets of human nature I suppose.
just had an idea. remove the tags but spawn some of those touristic POI, possibly naming the distant star expedition. it's kinda poetic to have a monument erected where nobody except suicidal cmdrs could get to see it![]()
I didn't know at the time. The inadvertent boost that led to the crash was 100% my boneheadedness. It was the inability to avoid an impact by use of thrusters that turned out to be possibly bug-related, but I'd already written it off by the time I found that out.Always contact support if you suspect your loss was due to a bug or glitch.
Not sure that's true, even now. This thread made it look that way, but the data that led to the tags was re-collected during a second run, after the self-destruct but before Support moved the ship. If anyone has evidence otherwise, please let me know. They can restore everything back even data.

I would prefer if the game sticks to its rules
