They "gave it away" for a reason

But the points above are coming from an IT Professional

Only issue I have with it really, oh I'll raise your IT professional with a retired 20years early IT professional ;)

Dont want to pay for updates monthly/biannually/annually.

I only ever use my PC for gaming. I have a macbook pro for surfing and everything else, a mac mini for data storage (music, films, photos etc) and a basestation for backing it all up. The NSA and Mi5 will only ever see me on a PC playing games.

My mac etc has no stored passwords. Ever. Theyre all in an address book. Hackers tend not to be burglars.

I could give no poohs as to the nsa or any other spying on me. Theyd get bored coz I'm boring. In fact I am boring myself typing thi....

Except that Win 8 and later do not perform a true cold boot, google it. Lots of possible problems with that. And as mentioned, on a powerful PC Win 7 cold-boots in less than 7 seconds...

You can permanently shut that feature off in the Power Settings. It's called "Fast-Boot". Basically just lets your PC hibernate when you turn it off, which can be beneficial for boot-times but may be a disadvantage if you forget to cold-reboot every once in a while (had a friend have a memory-leak after his session timer said he didn't reboot for 14 days. Thanks, Fast-Boot!).

Did you remove and reinstall gfx card drivers? That's the only thing I did.

Ironically, the only programme that doesn't seem to work for me with 10 is the AMD Raptr app, which can no longer 'optimise' anything.

hmmm i never thought of that. i did turn off raptor app

I'm pretty sure when I looked that although the version numbers were the same, the download was different for the Win 10 Radeon driver pack compared with Win 8.1.

I've now uninstalled Raptr as even the website suggests that Win 10 compatibility is yet to be sorted. Not sure what it brings to the party that you couldn't do yourself anyway to be honest.

Raptr is pretty good at recording as it directly accesses AMDs hardware API (VCE Block) rather than hooking the OS functions like most others do. I always found the game optimizations in Raptr worse than useless. My win 10 problems were fixed by installing the 15.6 beta driver for 8.1, I'll wait for the next AMD release before messing with it again. Driver reinstallation on Windows really makes me want to boot into linux.. but there's no ED there (yet?).

Works fine for me in Windows 10, however the audio got cut down to Stereo instead of 5.1 Surround (Dolby Digital Live) as Creative's Windows 8.1 drivers don't work fully in Windows 10 yet.

Always some people that have to come into a thread and poop on a good idea.

I'm with you OP, it would be good to have a Windows 10 thread maybe in a tech support forum. Have you checked to see if one exists?

It's coming out on the 29th, free to most people, so we should expect it will be adopted quicker than usual. Don't know why people want to continue to bury their heads in the sand and pretend it doesn't exist.

I've been running builds since 10076. ED runs just fine form a framerate perspective but I do occasionally get some crashes - not sure if it's the video driver or a Win 10 issue.

managed a few hours last night... first time since I upgraded from windows 8.1 to windows 10... had a few more stutters than I am used to and 4 full crashes with a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE screen... genuinely loving windows 10 so far apart from this.... hopefully it will be sorted soon, maybe it will be an idea to run ED in compatibility mode; any thoughts?

ED Won's start in Windows 10

Hi all,

Have just upgraded for Windows 7 (64 bit) to Windows 10, and ED won't start.

Launchers starts, bug game won't run.

I have the latest Graphics drivers etc and everything else seems to work.

If I reinstalled game would I maintain my progress? And is this the best option?

Thanks for Help and any suggestions

You can delete and reinstall without losing your progress. However, I suspect you may have other issues at hand.

After uninstalling, delete all of the Frontier folders left behind and install the game to a different location on your drive.

Before deleting the game have you tried verifying the game files?

If not its worth a try

This is under OPTIONS on the start menu

Fingers crossed for you.
