Elite Dangerous | Cobra MK V Update - 12 December 2024

Don't be so sure, it was 4 months for the T8. We'll know when FDEV tell us, no sooner.
Given how lucrative the early access ships have been, especially the Mandalay, they might not be in a huge hurry to make it available for credits. And can you blame them?

But yeah, 3-4 months from the introduction, most likely. Maybe with the colonization update?

All new ships have a feature (I don't mean SСO) 6 guns, large cargo hold, biggest jump. What is the specialty of Cobra5 ?
It's Small. Therefore ideal for planet-hopping, especially if you are leaning into Odyssey with the high frequency of settlements with Small pads.

I also think it's easier to fit the Cobra Mk5 in those tight places on planet if you're doing exobiology or gathering materials on the surface where there's nowhere to fit even a medium ship

And, since it's a small ship, probably harder to hit than the Mandalay and more nimble.

By that logic the T8 would have had to come out after two months already. At least on Inara statistics it was far more unpopular than the Python II during pre access. The Mandalay on the other hand is so popular, it would have to be delayed by 5 or even 6 months.

Expansion states broken
Missions not yielding influence in certain systems

But sure let's fix the cosmetics. I am running out of patience and good will. I hold FDev in the same regard as Overwatch.

Judging by the maneuverability index, it's the same. I took a big ship on the Odyssey so that if you did something wrong, they couldn't destroy it. Its shields hold up to any damage from NPCs.

Whatever they fixed, it wasn't carriers. Sigh!!!

I watched some videos where a streamer took the Mandalay on a test flight early on. Yaw was fantastic but pitch and roll weren't special for a medium ship. It's not just about the manueverability index.

The Keelback , for example, steers like a cow and the manueverability index number reflects it. But it's roll rate is incredible, it can spin like a top on it's horizontal axis.

The numbers don't tell you everything about a ship or what it can do.

I just realized, the same conditions above may also apply to the Cobra Mk5. Plus, I don't think FD will release the latter for credits ahead of the Mandalay for whatever reason.

I agree. Especially in the game these ships have maneuverability at some points and it is the same. So we can not compare them on this parameter.
The question remains the same, what makes the Cobra5 stand out from other ships?
I understand that for some it is the appearance, etc. but I would like something specific that is in the 3 previous ships.

Speed. Nearly any build easily boosts over 600 m/s, and the cap is around 692 m/s.

Yes, it’s part of the Odyssey release, and I’ve paid for that already.
Why is this part of the release? There were no such ships in the Odyssey release! This is additional content for the Odyssey and will eventually be available in the Odyssey for credits.

I want to buy this ship, but I can't find any roles for it to use. Mandalay lands anywhere.

If you haven’t bought Odyssey, you have to pay to get the new ships. If you have bought Odyssey, and are prepared to sit out whatever time frame Frontier choose to put on the early access, you get access to the new ships at no additional cost.
