Elite Dangerous Colonisation Building Materials Transport Help?

Hi,
Is there anything in Elite Dangerous Colonisation for Building Materials Transport Help(not sure how that would be paid for)?
Or are we on our own with that and need a Fleet Carrier to go to all different systems that have the needed building materials ports whether at a planet base or space station and then order the building materials to be transferred to the fleet carrier I guess?
I am presuming that the fleet carrier can handle all of the building materials needed for the space station build?
thanx

There is no automated process helping you get the materials to your colonisation system or to a fleet carrier.
You, your squad or random cmdrs can deliver them.
And no, fleet carrier can't hold all the building materials.

You can:
  • Park your FC somewhere central, load up all the necessary supplies using your ship, then jump back and unload
  • Park your FC somewhere central and put up a competitve buy order for goods, advertise it somewhere more visibly.
  • If your colony is close, just go direct back and forth with a T9 or whatever.

It can hold an Outpost's worth, can't it?

Oh okay thanks guys, wow this is daunting, lol.....Too bad ya cant hire it done that would be the shiznit and probably go up pretty fast, I guess you could drop expensive cargo for payment but I am guessing thats probably not allowed.....Anyone know the approximate cost of all the build materials to completion besides the initial 25mil cr?

Uhm, yeah maybe idk I loaded up everything for an Outpost but was still shy on space for either Steel/Alu/CMM/Titanium.
I don't have alot of units spend on services, so maybe without the 2500 units tritium stored it could.

You can fit a tier 1 Outpost entirely in a Fleet Carrier as long as you don't have too many services installed. I have "Refuel, Rearm. and Repair" services up and running and it uses 930 T of the 25,000 T capacity - so 24,070 T left for storage/transport. An outpost only requires 18,473 T of materials. So yeah, you can easily fit it. I've completed 2 Outposts and 1 Industrial Port (36,829 T) before the tick this morning. I'm working on a Tier 2 asteroid base now (53,723 T). In fact my FC is fully loaded and now I'm waiting for FDEV to re-enable the colonization building process so I can start unloading her...

So, yeah, a Fleet Carrier is extremely beneficial to getting things acquired and moved.

That being said, a lot of the smaller tonnage items are pretty easy to find so I just pick them up with my Cutter (760 T) in nearby systems. The real payoff with the FC is when you can park it right near a source which requires the most aggregate tonnage (a Surface Refinery). Then just load her up with what is effectively the majority of the required materials from a single place.

Everything you transport with an FC will require both a loading round trip and then an unloading round trip for each load. If you simply use a large ship for transport its only one round trip for each load but your gonna spend a lot of time jumping around between systems. So, the FC requires twice the flight cycles but if you use it effectively you don't have to do any intersystem jumping with the ship you use for loading/unloading the FC. (I also use my Cutter (760 T) for loading/unloading the FC)

Another notable consideration is that "CMM Composites" are only obtained from SURFACE refineries. (The other Refinery commodities are not so limited). So, if you plan on parking your FC near one for ALL your Refinery commodities (which is a good idea), you are going to get very good at planetary landings!

I'll get all the "lower tonnage" Agriculture, High-Tech, and Industrial commodities by just flying to nearby systems in my Cutter. For the the Refinery commodities, I'll park my FC nearby my source and load up. Then there is "Insulating Membrane" which is also kinda restricted in its location/availability so I'll use a medium size ship (T8) with a good jump range (41LY) to go chase down the relatively small amount required in a single trip (Its also a Refinery commodity but fairly restricted by location).

Get a Fleet Carrier. Its a game changer. Especially now with colonization. Check out the "Pilots Trading Network" (PTN) if you want to streamline your quest for a Fleet Carrier. You can actually earn enough credits in only a couple of days to fully pay for an FC if you have a large capacity transport ship to work with and about 1BN credits to bankroll your initial investment (trade purchases). An FC costs 5BN, but you also have to consider the weekly upkeep (9.5M for Rearm, Refuel, Repair services). You'll also want to have a rebuy in the bank for your largest ship (just in case). Most folks suggest at least 7BN in the bank before pulling the trigger on an FC. Check out the PTN discord for specific details.

Thank you for all the info......

Anyone know what this is for?
Operation IDA are essentially a player group (in the same way the Fuel Rats are) who get together to rebuild damaged stations, the form is a way of requesting their assistance in your colonisation project.
It allows you to specify what and how much you need help with, Ihave browsed it out of curiosity but not completed it as I am not ready to start colonising yet.
I think they get back to you via the discord ID asked for at the end.

Built a medium science ground settlement last night and really it was easier not to use the FC and just T9 the few jumps back and forth, it was actually pretty quick, about 4-5 hours and it was done. With the FC jumps times it wasn't worth loading and unloading when the large commodites were 3 jumps aways.

I find my Imperial Cutter helps me a lot.

I maximize cargo space for 80% of the materials I can source in 1-2 jumps, and then fit a FSD booster and size-4 fuel scoop to collect the remaining 20% that is further away.

So using a smaller ship then like the Type-9 or Cutter I guess you just go down the long list of building materials and grind making multiple trips as close as possible for each required material to the colonisation ship to drop them off and you are allotted 4 weeks to complete the building of the space station, so is this more than enough time for completion tho?
thanx

I've just been hauling with my Cutter (704T), everything I need is close, using the FC would just be too much drama. For me my FC will be handy once we get out further from the classic bubble and resources become less reliably close.
I agree, it is more effort to load up the fleet carrier with commodities, then unload the carrier at the destination. Especially if those commodities are an easy jump away from the colony, it is just extra work to use the fleet carrier.

I find it handy to place my fleet carrier in the colony system so I have easy access to my other ships & modules. Also I sometimes dump excess commodities onto my fleet carrier, or pickup commodities I had lying around.
