Elite Dangerous Colonisation Building Materials Transport Help?

So are there all the building materials near virtually every major area of space where there are populated systems or in just the major ones like Sol, for example Pleiades, Hydrae, California, Witch Head, etc?

Also, is there any way to ensure that if so and the building materials are reported available in the said named location that we dont arrive and they are either not available or there is not enuf, so that we arent wasting our time, effort and jumps to get there for nothing?

Anyone know the amount of tonage of building materials required for the asteroid space station for a comparison with the other types?

The colonisation ship stays until the space station is built within the 4 week time requirement I presume?

thanx

The problem is that everyone is pretty much vacuuming up everything they can find near the build sites in the bubble. You can see this by using Inara to find a good supply of "CMM Composite" or "Insulating Membrane". So much so, that the last market times in Inara are going up dramatically (vs historical norms). This is a sign that folks are turning off things like EDMC so when they DO find a goodly supply of hard to find items, that location/quantity will not be broadcast to every Tom, Richard, and Harriet. There is a lot of competition right now for some of the commodities.

Fortunately, the folks jumping around (not using an FC) are not really travelling very deep (10K+ LS) into candidate star systems because of very long and repetitive transit times. This makes options much deeper into a star system quite attractive if you have an FC. ...but you will likely want to invest in a recon mission to see if its actually worth jumping your FC.

I would not be relying on Inara to find commodities right now cause it appears a lot of folks are simply turning it off (to preserve their sources). You will need to go out and explore based on outpost type to find a good source I think. (Take a look at a specific commodity on Inara and it will tell you what type station/outpost will generate it) You might also consider candidate stations with the LONGEST time since last market update. ;-)

Re: Asteroid Stations... You need to colonize a system which specifically supports an asteroid station. Not all of them do. Most do not.

You can find the exact list and quantity of commodities for ANY station type at this link: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/construction-requirements-matrix.634358/

Oh okay thanks, hopefully frontier really fixes this as thats kindof a huge turn of from even doing it despite the already required many arduous hauling trips, as its supposed to be an enjoyable game not a shunned job......

Building out a Star System SHOULD be a significant task. Particularly in a MMOG. Its already easy enough I think (as the situation would confirm). Make it too easy and all of a sudden everyone is everywhere. That's almost the case now. Its almost too easy already...

This also adds to the already heavy load on the FDEV servers. Think about all those thousands of new stations and markets just coming on line. You can already feel the back end laboring to keep up...

A good game should provide an enduring quest (or quests) otherwise its all one-and done.

Yeah I guess youre right, I just keep planning and getting ready and then there is the cmm and other issues yada yada, etc, frontier should at least fix the issues and make the stuff available at any rate so we can build, some of this really should have been anticipated imo!......

Nice to know, thanks for the info......If someone helps me I feel that its only fair that they get paid for their trouble, I would just drop an expensive cargo load for them.
So then can you build anywhere there are building materials available so you can complete the space station which I would think should be about everywhere near reasonably larger systems?
Is there any kind of request for help type board that you can enlist other cmdr's to help haul materials for a fee I would think?

Here's the issue. You're going to struggle to find any takers whatsoever who will be willing to work in exchange for you "dropping some cargo". Nobody wants to get scammed, and it's just impossible to enforce that either you will follow through on your promise of payment, or conversely that they will follow through on the promise of work if you pay upfront.

Communities such as the pilot's trade network on reddit and discord do organize buy/sell orders for fleet carriers, and the only fair way to ensure both work and payment is for the carrier owner to configure their fleet carrier's commodity market in such a way that the market transactions provide the agreed upon profit per ton of cargo transported. In general the averages rates for this are in the ballpark of 15k to 20k credits of profit per ton.

FDEV has halfway shot the playerbase in the foot in that most of the commodities needed are VERY cheap. So it's IMPOSSIBLE to offer a "fair wage" to transport goods from the carrier to the construction site even if you could literally give the commodities away for free. At BEST you can requisition assistance with loading your carrier by parking your carrier in orbit near a refinery station and then issuing large buy orders for things like aluminium/steel/titanium at rates that will pay any prospective hauler ~15-20k per ton.

Hmm, I see, okay......thanx for that info......to my credit, when I give my word I am bound by it but no one knows me so its all relative lol and I can see where scammers have ruined things for honest folks......o7

The other reason why carrier markets are the principal way of exchanging payment for cargo hauling is because of scheduling concerns. Let's consider that the person who wants to help you lives on the other side of the planet. Even if they agreed to trust you, it's hard for you to pay them if you are sleeping or occupied with your career during the hours that they are available to play.

That's not an issue with a buy/sell order in a carrier commodity market. You place the buy/sell order at the start of the job, and then anyone can do their part to fulfill their order at any time of day and they are automatically and instantly paid for their efforts with no need for any players to synchronize schedules.

Agreed.....
Now I like that, the 'buy/sell order in a carrier commodity market', that makes sense and I feel that something like that or even ARX for FC or Space Station would be acceptable for those of use that cant be on our computers for hours playing/grinding like myself.
Sometimes I literally get b*tched(sorry for the swear lol) out 5 minutes after getting on, "are you seriously on that game again!?"......LOL, knowing I am gonna grind which can take hours, hahaha......

You don't want to burn out the game all at once. There needs to be some progression so they came can work for both newcomers and old farts (like me). It sounds like you are fixated/focused on colonization but may not have played through some of the easier stuff which will actually make colonization a lot less stressful. For instance...

1. I'm glad I've engineered most of my ships. I get better jump ranges for gather commodities. Have you made friends with many of the Engineers yet?

2. I'm glad I have a fully equipped Cutter for max haulage. Have you ranked up with the Feds or Imperials to get their best ships?

3. I'm glad I unlocked the new Double Engineered SCO FSD as that helps with long transits inside systems. This requires some Thargoid harvesting and you are also going to need some G5 materials...

4. Have you got a Fleet Carrier? This makes Haulage a little more convenient and also opens up lots of other options for travelling, etc.

Don't kill yourself over Colonization. Its much easier as an "End Game" activity for folks who have already mostly maxed out their fleets. Maybe you still have some mid-game stuff to ENJOY that will make colonization less of a grind. Its been said that Elite is a million miles wide but only an inch deep. There is lots of other stuff to do which can actually make colonization more efficient and fun. There are 400 Billion Star system here. We are not gonna run out any time soon!

Okay thanks, lol......I got one station bc someone helped me and hauled it for me, so I want to do it on my own too, haha......
I will get there but your right, enjoy the game too, Im exmilitary so probably overkill intense sometimes, lol.....
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Killed lots of murder flowers/hydras
4. Working on it

- Unlocking the Double Engineered SCO drive is very helpful and time saving for moving around in-system. You will need Thargoid parts and also G5 Mats...

- An FC is obviously helpful in colonization but getting a FC will also help in acquiring the G5 mats you need for above as you can jump way out to the Brain Tree locations to farm them. So maybe get your FC first to help with getting the Double-Engineered SCO drive(s)?

Nice, thanx for the info, I will certainly look into that.....
