Elite Dangerous coming to Oculus... March 28th

Blessing in disguise you get to see any and all problems people encounter fo 2 months which gives you more time to make sure it was the right decision. I waited until now to actually place my order for that very reason if there are a lot of problems then I will cancel and wait some more. Want to get the most for my money.

I agree, waiting a bit longer to see reviews and see how people are reacting to either the Rift or Vive will be interesting to see, i have a feeling people will be delighted with either of these VR sets but like you i want the best value for money i can get.

I think one of the major considerations for everyone who orders either Rift or Vive to think about is after sales support and how efficient either company is at replacing parts/repairing sets that go faulty, i expect both sets will be very reliable but even with the best intention in the world inevitably a certain number of sets might experiance electronic failures or dead pixels in the case of the screens, people may accidentely scratch the lenses so i hope both companies will have a good stock of replacements.

I will want to know what the guarentee conditions are as well.

From experience I can tell you the Oculus support is top notch. They will work with you to determine the issue, and once found will replace parts no problem. I had a faulty connector on my cable for the z axis sensor, it worked if I plugged it directly into the DK2. They sent me a new wire within a week of us determining the problem.

Good to know they replaced your connector quickly and this is encouraging to hear, both my DK2s worked flawlessly all the time i owned them and they where in perfect working order when i sold them on Ebay last year so i didnt get the chance to find out how good Oculus where at sorting out problems.

Oculus has just released their games on launch trailer and email detailing the game on offer.

Pleased to see ED in there as well.

Weird how Gunjack is coming to the Rift when it's a Gear VR version of Valkyrie (i.e. a less featured version of a game already coming to the Rift) as far as I am aware?

And, scary as Dreadhalls was, I'm surprised to see it feature as a fully fledged game. Basically nearly any horror is going to pant-stainingly scary in VR so I kind of expected more "serious" developer's wares to feature in that genre. There does look to be some atmospheric ones there. I think Adrift looks like it might get the pulse racing more than a little.

annoyed at myself for not picking up star wars shuffle puck cantina when it was in a bundle..... but I didn't know if it would support cv1 or not. I should have bit!.

It would be like offering Arena for a fiver in parallel with the ED Deluxe pack...

so I asked about gunjack on the forums. apparently it is a little different than Valkyrie in that it is a guided/on the rails based shooter by the sounds of it a bit like rebel assault or starblade I think

It is nice to see Elite in the mix. But if they're going to have a game as iconic as Elite in there then they should have shown an iconic image: passing by a Cobra as you head towards a Coriolis Station.

From what I hear about Gunjack, it's designed for the GearVR format without requiring an addon controller, so it's look to aim your turret and press the trackpad on the turret to shoot. A pretty, but simple game for CCP to learn how to make games for VR with and promote the EVE brand.

Bah .. really can't make up my mind which to get now. Rift or DK2 .. I'm flip flopping more than Andy Burnham. a) Cheaper Rift with some kind of X-Box support and camera tech (limited tracking) or b) Much more expensive Vive with controllers bundled and lighthouse 360 tracking (does this need a 15 x 15 room?). I love the idea of the Vive but the wife will fillet me if she finds out how much it costs.

Currently I'm thinking ... DK2 for now ----> Wait for Pascal or AMD equivalent & buy (May time) ----> Take a view on which HMD tech to buy then (June).

I can't wait to see what 1.0 support is like for the DK2. If it delivers 0.5 performance again I'll be pleased. I think it's fair to say that very little will come close to ED for VR experience. I'll never forget the first time I drove over the edge of a cliff in Horizons and the uncontrolled screaming that followed.

If you are not already into VR, then get a cheap DK2, evaluate and pick when things and reviews settle down in 6 months.

Trouble is they don't seem to be "cheap", at least yet. I sold mine for what I paid for it (that's what the buyer paid, I had fees, etc after that), and I bought it in Jul '14 so out of warranty and everything.

Price will drop in a few weeks DK2 will flood ebay
