Push #1

I doesn't matter if you donate anything, but it would be highly appreciated if you could leave a genuine comment about what you think of the campaign.

This is a community project, organised by a member of the Elite: Dangerous community, and is not affiliated or represented by Frontier Developments.

I just launched an Indiegogo campaign in an effort to get the financial support I'd need to get for what I think is the necessary equipment for the production of my video series - Elite: Dangerous Commander's Log.

You can see the campaign here:
https://igg.me/at/commanderslog

Below is a part of the campaign for you to get an idea what it is about,
If you want to leave criticism please take your time and read through the full campaign before your do.

If you'd like you can leave a comment and tell me what you think or ask questions.

About the concept:

Elite: Dangerous - Commander's Log is supposed to be a mature sci-fi story set in the Elite: Dangerous universe dealing with psychological themes while providing a interesting story to follow. The story is following the main character through the computer logs he leaves on his ship, each episode starts like a narrated log entry and ends like one with the time inbetween telling the story in a visualized way using the game Elite: Dangerous and its impressive visuals as well as sound.

About the main character:

The main character is a young pilot in his twenties trying to live his life after his friend, who gave him light during a hard time of his live during which he fell in love with him, died under circumstances he believes are his responsibility, therefore blaming himself for his death.Their relationship aswell as the hard times following his loves' supposed death left many marks on the main character, making him mentally ill beyond the common scope.

About the main characters 'supposedly' dead partner:

He is the decendant of an influential federal military offical in the Sol system. He joined the Federal Navy and, comparatively to other service members, rose quickly through the ranks of the Federal Navy becoming the leader of a small special task squadron, this was not only due to his genetic enhancements but also due to his mothers influence in the military. He first met the main character during an encounter on Mars High (a starport orbiting Mars), he started to become interested in him and observingly gathered information about him. After a series of tragic events in the main characters live he saw an opportunity to further build his relationship with him, bonding him emotionally to himself and eventually making him join the Federal Navy, having him under his command. He was reported KIA after being shot down in his F36 Condor (a small fightercraft), crashing in a hazardous enviroment, his pilot suit was damaged leaving him vulnerable to the poisonous atmosphere of the earth-like world. He died within five minutes and in the arms of the main character during an attempted rescue.

About the story:

After years of suffering from depression and a deep sense of being lost after his loves' death with no one left in his life, the main character succumbs to the pain and decides to commit suicide. Only to be stopped hours before, by a courier who delivers him a message from his loves' mother containing the coordinates of the now decommissioned ship he served together on with his partner. With the ship left for him to find the main character embarks on a journey to retrieve it, with the motivation that this might be an indicator pointing towards his partner being still alive. After retrieving the ship the main character gives himself a second chance in life and embarks on a journey to come to terms with his past and to face his problems before they can consume him again.

Other things:

For Commander's Log I not only write the story but also do the voice acting.I try my best at both but don't expect any miracles, same goes for the soundtrack as I plan to do a simple soundtrack for the series myself, should I fail make a decent track for a scene I plan to use the games soundtrack. My progress so far regarding the soundtrack can be found here:
https://soundcloud.com/user-430701655

It is not great- but a start, the current 6tracks are me just having tried some things. The planned soundtrack supposed to be mostly of supportive nature, playing with the scene, the current tracks are less that and more just me trying things out. In the future I plan to upload tracks specifically made with the scene it is for in mind.

When will Commander's Log be released?

The first episode, should the campaign succed, is supposed to be uploaded in Q3 of 2018 or earlier.

How many episodes are planned?

So far 12 episodes are planned for release. For updates and other things you can head over to my twitter:

Sounds like a worthy project - will check it out when I get home ;-)

I disagree with the nature of this thread, and I'm fairly sure that there's a rule against begging.
I was in contact with Frontier before the launch of the campaign and from what I understood it was ok for me to open a thread.
Also I would like to know why you disagree with the nature of the thread and what you mean by that.

He was not rude. Blunt, but not rude.
I agree.

OP has obviously put a lot of effort into his post, and project too I guess.. calling him a beggar is rude imo.. whether you think the post is appropriate or not.

I did put effort into writing the campaign aswell as the story of the series, although I do not think that the use of the word beggar was appropriate, in some way it was correct, after all I ask strangers on the internet to give me money for something that I dont have the money for.

I just don't think that anyone who isn't FD should be using the forum to raise any kinds of funds. Now that's a personal opinion, and if you have indeed talked with Frontier, fair play.

But I generally don't agree with regular forum members raising money here. It's nothing personal.

Fairplay on the request...but I'd recommend changing the name..."Captains Log" is a well known and supported third party app...and the confusion is a bit unnecessary...
NOT what you want to hear I'm sure but I read "Captains Log...fundraiser" and clicked through thinking "yes...I'll give a bit...I've used his app for free all this time" so its a bit misleading...

It looks like you are creative and have put much time and effort into this, and I don't want to discourage that in any way. However, anything mature simply has no place in a game that children play.

I edited my original response because it was far too harsh, and we could all use more civility in our online interactions.

Good luck in your fund raising.

Thank you for letting me know, but I don't know where else I should have put it, on its own the campaign would dry out, and me blastin' about on twitter with hashtags and multiple 'have you seen my campaign' tweets to people would be, in my opinion, more begging than a thread that can also be used to discuss the campaign.

I don't think the OP is begging.
Asking for funding for a project is not begging.
I wish the OP well.

Thank you.

Like I said I didn't really know about the app, if more people voice the same complaint I will seriously consider changing the name.

Mature? Partner? Guy on guy?

Please leave the LBGT indoctrination, and sex in general, out of this - kids play this game!

-Mature means that it is not supposed to be a silly comedy but more of a serious drama.

-Sex will not be a major topic and if it should be mentioned it would not be 'in your face' SJW style.

The theme of having the main character be bisexual is supposed to make the story different and will just be a fact about the characters being and not some SJW bulls**t about how awesome gay people are, the character just was in a gay relationship, is bisexual and thats about it. The story is supposed to deal with psychological problems aswell as emotions and not some space captain philosophizing about male on male *** play.

And regarding LGBT indoctrination: This series is not supposed to turn anyone gay, bisexual, pansexual or whatnot. And if you are concerned about 'kids', the series will at the start of each episode have trigger warnings as well as an age recommendation which, at the moment, is 16 and above, because I think a 16 year old person can handle the topics far better than some 8 year old who just watched the latest Minecraft lets play.

I've now had a chance to read about OP's proposal in his writeup on Indiegogo.

OP has recognized a mental problem in himself (he's not sick, just needs an uplift in the early career of his life .... he's only 19 so has plenty of life ahead of him) and is doing something positive about it, but needs help. He appears to have thought through a lot of possible problems with his project, how he can overcome them and provides an honest appraisal of what he is doing. Most importantly, he is realistic about what he can achieve.

I hope I'm not inaccurately summarizing his project by saying that he needs financial help to build a computer (or buy one outright) that will help him achieve his goal.

"I plan to use the computer to do more than just release a video series, I want to start a community where people with and without problems can go to to be entertained and to help each other while having common interests like science fiction for example."

If we get behind him and help him, he may find added support in his community in Germany to locate and expand what he hopes to achieve. From little acorns, mighty oaks have grown, and all that ....

But he does need to start somewhere .. but I suggest, OP, change the name from Captain's Log (already used) to maybe Commander's Blog .... that's similar but sufficiently different.

I wasn't being rude - I said I thought that making a thread begging for cash to buy equipment is inappropriate.

I also think it is against the forum rules.

It didn't stop OA seeking help ... and receiving it ... from the community he built here (although I cannot be certain he actually asked for help in these pages).

At least I'm consistent. I was against that too!

Thank you for your nice words and good summary of what I am trying to say with what I have written. :)

I really need to think about what the new name should be, I originally choose 'Commander's Log' because the series is told throughout the computer logs the character leaves on his ship's computer and is not broadcasting them for everyone to see, therefore Commander's Blog would be not the best choice for a new name.

'A Commander's Story' or 'Story of a Commander' could work, I'd like to keep the word commander in the title as players of the game are commanders and one idea behind the title is that it should suggest that it is just the story of some other commander in the galaxy.

-

Also how can I contact the managers of the app to talk to them about this?

Mature? Please leave sex out of this - kids play this game!

Based on your criticism I have changed the wording from 'mature' to 'serious'.
