Modes Elite: Dangerous from fresh player's perspective

Since you are not Jockey saying it, think he may finally believe someone?

<shrug> Not my problem if he doesn't. He's only keeping false hope alive for himself.

The game is on solid grounds, Frontier is on solid corporate footing, and the devs have always stated they don't care about other people's opinions, where the 'modes' and the implementation of them is concerned....

Can't rep you so 1000 lbs of Cubeo Razorback Bacon

And they could close Open.

If only.

Or better still, just renaming / organising the menu system could settle this whole "debate"

Play;
  • Random
  • Friends; [names of your groups]
  • Solo

I think that gets the message over much better.

As Random shows that you cannot plan anything regarding whom you'll meet as it is random who will be in your instance.
"Friends" seems more casual and chilled that "Private". Solo is solo, I thought about using Single player, but that sort of doesn't fit as you're still part of the online BGS.

Sounds good to me....

There are no modes!

....
I also love that I can play on my pc and my friend can play on her PS4 and even though we dont see each other in game we can work towards the exact same goal in the shared universe. So breaking it up would also get a no from me but then what do I matter.
...

I really cannot see why cross platform doesn't work properly.

I play Star Trek Bridge Crew on my PC, in an Oculus Rift HMD and I play with PSVR players, PS/4 no VR players and PC no VR.
Fortnite Battle Royale is also XB1, PS/4. mobile (iOS) and PC mixed - and that has way more players.

Perhaps if we had a proper server would could also have cross platform play.

I figured it probably had been at some point. And I think if everyone were being honest they could see how its a bad idea.

Of course I would also think anyone who had any love for this game would see how removing the BGS from any mode would be bad.

but to keep this thread on track

Yes!
or
Yah huh!! :p:p:eek:[big grin]

I know on Final Fantasy XIV cross platform are together so maybe one day. And Kalie, you matter, don't let anyone tell you that you don't.

There is a different in running missing here and there for credits and materials. Compared to grinding against another players faction for 2 months.

Major difference here. Again, a lot of people speaking out of turn here. Wonder why that is?

I’m sure you’ve seen this before:

1) There is no such thing as a “players faction.” They’re all NPC factions, even the player named ones.

2) Stellar Forge named factions outnumber player named factions by about 98:1.

3) Roughly 20% of the largest factions are Stellar Forge named factions. This number starts growing rapidly outside the top 100 factions, until the reverse is true outside the top 200 factions. Of all the multi-system “empires” out there, player named factions consist of only a sixth of them. A faction can only expand into a new system due to player activity.

4) Nearly half of all player named factions don’t control their own home system.

5) Manipulating the BGS is done for other purposes besides pushing a particular faction into controlling a system. These include, but are not necessarily limited to: influencing a faction’s state, tailoring a system to generate the types of missions a player enjoys, removing a faction from power, and/or tailoring a system to be unattractive to other players.

6) If you’re personally grinding influence, you’re probably doing something wrong.

7) If you’re trying to advance a faction via PvP, you’re definitely doing something wrong.

The bottom line is that player named faction vs player named faction competition represents a tiny proportion of all BGS play, and a vast majority of all BGS play is done unopposed by any knowing player. But every single player who deliberately manipulates the BGS, for whatever reason, needs to do so via the movement of PvE tokens, because that’s the rules of the game we all agreed to when we started playing this game.

If you want to play a game with others, it’s important to understand the rules of the game first. If you go to a football game, and start playing American football, don’t be surprised if the other players don’t want to play with you. Also, don’t be surprised if the rugby players laugh at you.

”You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Jockey79 again.“

I agree. Some people still refuse to accept that the modes are social filters.

Warframe has the same system, but they use Public, Friends, Single player.
And that system just feels more friendly than Elites.

I think the choice in names has really backfired, coupled with slapping an MMO tag on the game - it has lead to a false understanding of what the game is.

Let me help YOUR understanding.

I'm sure you have lots of Sidewinders, Haulers, T7's etc. to "challenge" so don't let me keep you.
Bye.

I think this part of the definition sums your side up best.

"He was criticized for his inept handling of the situation."

Again its not an insult. YOu just simply dont understand what PVP is, indirect or direct and what direct can be used for.

If a sidewinder or t7 is in my BGS racking out bounties, running data against us and so on and I have the chance to kill them. Yes I will.

Sorry you fail to understand that.

I dont seal club or anything like that. I attack people that know the game and know it well.

Once again huge difference in something you have shown you know nothing about. Thats what Inept means.

Maybe you should read your own link.
bye

Yes sir. Now ask yourself. What did Tencent do for league of legends? Its public information shouldnt be hard to find.

You need to look at the most probable reason Tencent bought in to Frontier, the timing backs up what I'm about to say as well. The Jurassic Park franchise is hugely popular in China and the Asian markets in general. Now, if you look at the timings of Tencent's investment and the announcement(s) regarding Frontier's JWE game you start to get the picture. I'd be very surprised if Tencent buying into Frontier has anything to do with Elite D at all - let alone being the saviour of PVP in Elite D and has everything to do with monetising the Asian markets for when JWE is released this summer.

I do reserve the right to be wrong on this one but it all seems pretty likely.

Excellent, you finally understand. It's finally gotten through. So glad we will no longer have to hear you bleat on about how they should change the game to suit your idea of how it needs to be.

Bottom line it cant stay the way it is.

The only thing im saying that NEEDS to happen is define PVP in this game over objectives. Thats what PVP is for in any game. Ya'll get hung up on different style of games like League of Legends and WoW, or Guilkdwars 2 when I bring that up. Hell even Overwatch.

PVP in those games is for attacking and defending objectives.

In this game because of the simple opt out. You are either labelled a griefer, or you have pre arranged consensual PVP. Anything outside of that is Taboo.

And it shouldnt be that way. PVP should have an understand here. And it doesnt. It is because the modes because people can simply opt out of objectives.

Removing the need for half of the engineers and modules no one ever touches. Part of the game like powerplay has failed too.

Ya'll can run your mouths until you're blue in the face how I am wrong. Thats okay.

But ya'll are running your mouths because you WANT me to be wrong.

And maybe one day you guys will figure it out. As a mod you should see the toxicity it has spurred long before I got here. Including the thread on the front page of General Discussion when he specifically says the same thing and PVEers and PVPers when I came to these forums months ago. What people have complained about in the Hotel threads long before I got here.

So you're either purposefully Ignoring those facts. Or people simply just dont get it.

Its been an issue long before I got here. And it something they will tackle sooner or later as game developers always do when these things come up. I just cant for the life of me figure out why they wont address this stuff.

Its like shooting themselves in the foot.

I havnt looked into Jurrasic park a whole lot. Is it multiplayer? Can I throw Pokeballs at other people and battle with my T-rex like Beta fish?

"I'm not clubbing seals! I'm only kicking puppies!"
I, and many others on this thread understand you perfectly. What you persistently fail to understand is that you're wrong, and saying you're right doesn't change that.
That's enough pigeon chess for me. Bye.

The bottom line is that you can’t stay the way you are. You didn’t even know how the game worked before you bought it. The game is what it is for good reasons that decided long before you got upset about it. The objective based gameplay in Elite requires no direct PvP to win. None. It’s been that way from the beginning. Opting out of direct PvP is a core tenant of this game. These are all things that were in place before you bought the game.

The “people” choose to engage in objective based gameplay that avoids direct PvP. That’s by design and their choice. Either counter your enemy by available means or accept the loss because you’re unwilling to play the game the way it was designed.

If you spent more time and energy discussing how to make PvP better and less time trying to tear down preferred gameplay, you’d find a lot more success. By taking an elitist and exclusionary stance, you’ve made effort to alienate yourself from the community. A community that, like you, wants to see the game get better for everyone. Not just one group.

There are enough smart people around here that solutions to build up can made without having to destroy preferred gameplay.

I assumed the game worked correctly when I bought it. Especially for the multiplayer aspect. It was what 2013 or something when I bought it.

The issues like Hotel California, open private and solo stuff has been LONG LOOOOOONG problem solved in the early 90s.

But, after playing and seeing how the game started out and evolved from what it once was to today. Yeah, there has to be some give here. Especially since they intended on making powerplay that outlet.

You can say I need to change or whatever. I can leave and move on.

All of the PVPers can. But there will be a new set of people, even veterans like Drew Wagar for example that acknowledged this was an issue, even the ACTIVE BGSers in Mobius want this change here.

Thats mobius for christ sake.

So you guys can tell me I need to change all you'd like.

There is a major issue here. Its been around long before I got here. And hopefully not much longer with Beyond. They said they were working on Core Elements of the game in Beyond. This is one of the things I hope they address. Because it is an issue.

It was in development in 2013 so that's a weird assumption to have. It wasn't released until December 2014.
But they had already made it quite clear in 2012 that not all players would be available for you to "interact" with and there was a selective multiplayer system.

So the game did work "correctly" when you bought it. You just didn't understand it and still don't.

Especially since they intended on making powerplay that outlet.

Power Play was always consensual PvP. Was at creation, is now. Even Sandro said so, which you know as you linked me the video.

Proof?

Got a survey of all 40,000 Mobius users to hand?
As I wasn't asked and it's not on their forums.
