Elite Dangerous has sold 3m copies, Horizons 1.3m (43% of basegame owners)

That's a good point. Even if all sales are counted at the discount price of $30 (which of course is not the case) it still grosses at near the $100m mark. Add in cosmetics ... really not a bad place for FD to be in at all. I've probably spent as much on those as the base game and I'm a stingy old git.

Except a LOT of those sales would be at, or even below, the sale prices of $14-$19.99.

And let's be honest: without the injection of cash from Tencent last year, Frontier would have been in the negative, as per their own financial disclosure.

That's not "fine" or a good place to be, especially with no big, ongoing revenue source.

I hope they pull through, refocus and make Elite the game we know it COULD be. I just refuse to get my Hopes up.

Elite Dangerous Sales - London Stock Exchange

Elite Dangerous has exceeded 3 million base game units. Previously the Company has reported "franchise units" for Elite Dangerous whereby the Elite Dangerous: Horizons, sold at the same price as the base game, was also counted as one unit. The Company has now simplified unit reporting to state gross unit sales of the base game only.

For comparative purposes cumulative franchise units for Elite Dangerous are now over 4.3 million.

Also, while some 11 thousand players are heading across the galaxy, little do they know...

THE GAME IS DOOMED!

Spacelegs/Atmospheric edition 12.3m (98% of basegame owners) lol
Seriously, 43% for horizons feels like a weak percentage.

That is not how it is to be read if I understand correctly. You would need to look at previous years statement as well? as I see it.

Especially since they state that they continue to perform well.

That said you do not need GTA V numbers to be successful, just because a game doesn't sell like call of duty and the like does not mean it isn't doing great, all depends on a ton of factors, if a dev has profit from a game after everything is paid then they are doing well, and then it just comes down to 'how much' profit.

Will be interesting to see what they do about selling the base game and Horizons when the DLC arrives. Will the many base game owners who perhaps haven't played the game for a long while be prepared to upgrade to Horizons and then pay for the the DLC, even if Horizons is only £5? Might they roll the two together and give all base game owners a free upgrade to Horizons? It would probably make the DLC more tempting and sell more copies whilst keeping players from being scattered about on 3 different versions of the game.

Please show me where Fdev promised atmo this year. If I'm wrong, great, we get a cool DLC.

But they never promised, or even mentioned, any specific content. This is the make believe Ten Year Plan all over again.

You're the one who has been saying quite assertively that it cant/won't be done for many months, so I'm just saying I'm sure you'll admit you were wrong if it happens.

3mill base game and 1.3mill horizons owners.

At this point Horizons gates a good deal of stuff. So I wonder, how many of the remaining 1.7mill base game owners are inactives.

Or are there just that many holdouts?

Probably a lot. That's the nature of games. There are 40 games in my steam library, I am inactive in 39 of them.
